General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDonald Trump has effectively divided the FBI.
Just as he has divided most of America, his latest effort to get rid of McCabe was done by recruiting certain agents in the FBI to work with the IG to discredit and then fire McCabe. This is a dangerous development. Justice cannot be a partisan idea.
Trump has run a months long campaign to discredit our institutions, including the FBI and our Justice Dept, in order to discredit Robert Mueller and his Russia investigation. It appears he has been more successful than we may care to admit?
A nation divided against itself cannot stand is just as true today as it was during the time of Lincoln.
This cancer must be removed from our body politic. We cannot wait until the next election. If we are to save our country, we must act now. Elected officials, Democrats and Republicans, must endeavor to understand that our country is in dire danger and must be protected today. We cannot wait for an election to make such a vital decision.
Wake up people! He is a threat to our national security. It's not a joke.

(6,709 posts)And the possible offense/rationale for firing apparently concerned mishandling of Hillary's emails and being less than truthful with investigators.
Maybe he deserved firing, maybe not. The method and timing was without doubt vindictive and an attempt to discredit him as a witness, but he may not be completely blameless.

(111,103 posts)These are the ones that Trump has divided and turned, just as he did the House Intel Committee, that just gave their special report of "no evidence of collusion".
It is not just the opinion of the IG. It is his team.

(111,103 posts)That would not have been the decision of the IG without some sort of coercion. Or the advice of his team of FBI agents that were working with him?

Yes, this is extreme abuse of power and vindictiveness/political payback by Trump which should be prosecuted.

(13,305 posts)...but the FBI has always been partisan in favor of whoever gives them the most free reign to do what they want. I'm not shedding any tears for Comey. We might not be in this position if it weren't for him and his actions.

(111,103 posts)It is not difficult to see how some could be persuaded to go along with the charges of Donald Trump. If we recall, Rudy Guiliani had his own little cadre of FBI supporters of Trump during the election.

(111,103 posts)He said it was a discrediting campaign and that there are still a lot of questions about the way McCabe was fired.
This may be where Trump crossed the line into obstruction?
