(18,837 posts)Mr. diGenova, a former United States attorney, is not expected to take a lead role. But he will serve as an outspoken player for the president as Mr. Trump has increased his attacks on the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III. Mr. Trump broke over the weekend from the longstanding advice of some of his lawyers that he refrain from directly criticizing Mr. Mueller, a sign of his growing unease with the investigation.
Former U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia Joe DiGenova will be joining our legal team later this week, said Jay Sekulow, one of the presidents personal lawyers. I have worked with Joe for many years and have full confidence that he will be a great asset in our representation of the President.
Mr. diGenova has endorsed the notion that a secretive group of F.B.I. agents concocted the Russia investigation as a way to keep Mr. Trump from becoming president. There was a brazen plot to illegally exonerate Hillary Clinton and, if she didnt win the election, to then frame Donald Trump with a falsely created crime, he said on Fox News in January. He added, Make no mistake about it: A group of F.B.I. and D.O.J. people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.

(18,837 posts)https://www.rawstory.com/2018/03/trump-might-ditch-new-lawyer-mueller-probe-first-meeting-report/
President Donald Trump this week seemed to hire controversial attorney Joseph diGenova, a regular Fox News guest who is known for spouting conspiracy theories about the deep state conspiring to frame the president for crimes.
However, CNN is now reporting that Trump isnt sure diGenova and his wife, fellow lawyer and Fox News regular Victoria Toensing, are the right people for the job after meeting with them just once.
The Thursday meeting was the first time the husband-and-wife legal team met with the President since the Monday announcement, CNN reports. One source said that while Trump liked their message, the President is not convinced they are right for the legal jobs.
In particular, CNNs sources say the Trump White House has concerns over whether diGenova can reasonably claim a lack of conflict when his wife represents clients like Mark Corrallo, who has spoken to special counsel Robert Muellers team about how the President and his team responded to the revelations regarding the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting that Donald Trump Jr. and other campaign officials had with a group of Russians.

Both Victoria Toensing and DiGenova have made frequent appearances on national television programs, often boosting Republican causes, and they were especially prolific during the Clinton years and investigations.
Victoria Toensing has represented a Benghazi whistleblower, and was named Special Counsel by the U.S. House of Representatives to probe the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. In 2007, Toensing was retained by the New York State Senate to investigate then-Gov. Eliot Spitzer in the Troopergate matter, her law firm bio says.
She also spent time as a prosecutor in the Reagan Justice Department. As Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Criminal Division of the U.S. Justice Department from 1984-1988, she established Justices Terrorism Unit, the bio says. She managed the federal governments efforts to bring to justice the terrorists responsible for the hijacking of TWA 847, the bombing of Pan Am 830, and the takeover of the cruise ship Achille Lauro. For her aggressive pursuit of terrorist Mohammed Rashid she was featured on the cover of The New York Times Magazine (April 21, 1991).
She was also chief counsel for Republican senator Barry Goldwater.
In 1998, The Washington Post called Toensing and her husband, DiGenova, The Power Couple at Scandals Vortex. The Post described their criticism of the Clintons and wrote that DiGenova was a white-hot media presence, politically connected lawyer and all-around agent provocateur. He and Toensing, also a battle-tested former prosecutor, keep popping up wherever there is trouble as commentators, as investigators, as unnamed sources for reporters.
The Post described how Victoria Toensing and DiGenova were involved in criticism over Bill Clintons affair with Monica Lewinsky. Victoria Toensing was approached by an intermediary for a Secret Service agent who had supposedly seen something untoward involving President Clinton and the former intern. DiGenova was at the heart of a quickly retracted Dallas Morning News account of that matter, the Post reported.
Wrote one political critic on Facebook: Brady Toensing is the son of Joe diGenova and Victoria Toensing, two ultra right wing loudmouths who were constantly on television cheering on the impeachment of Bill Clinton..
Victoria Toensing is still involved in the public debate. She recently wrote a column for Fox News that opined that Trump Attorney General Jeff Sessions was being unfairly maligned.
The site Media Matters has gathered a round up of Victoria Toensing claims in the media, although that site is left leaning and focuses on exposing conservative bias.

Trump likely laid out what he expected, and it was likely illegal, or at best, unethical for a lawyer to agree to.
That would explain the "not a good fit" language coming from both sides.
Trump wants a consigliere. But no lawyer with a good rep wants to be one for him.

(6,254 posts)Any worthwhile lawyer will probably want a retainer of ten million or so up front. Trump doesnt have that kind of money so no top notch lawyer will represent him and this lawyer is a clown. Trump probably thought this guy was crazier than him. I have represented some pretty unsavory people, drug dealers, rapists etc. but I draw the line at a traitorous President and I wouldnt represent him for all the money in the world. I dont want the stench of this vile creature anywhere near me.

Maybe they've been insulated by waaay too much faux noise obfuscation of the facts and just had no idea how bad it really was until they crawled out from under the faux noise blanket and got a whiff of the real world.
Either that or the sight of dumpf wandering around the Oval Office in a stained bathrobe mumbling and bumping into things gave them the epiphany they sorely needed.
That and the overpowering smell of old cheeseburgers swept into piles under the resolute desk.....

I think Trump is so concerned about the Stormy stuff that he will risk starting a trade war and/or real war. Trump knows he is impervious to almost everything except something so deviant even his hardcore supporters couldnt tolerate so he is fighting back in fear like an injured animal.
