Bush was stupid, but Trump is crazy, evil, and stupid.

(12,586 posts)That's more than Trump can do. I truly think he's illiterate.

(4,959 posts)Not that I think he is a genius, don't get me wrong, but he knew how to play the game. He could navigate DC and play it right. Far more successful at it than Trump, although equally as soulless.
Trump doesn't even know how to fake it. He doesn't exist in the real world, and he has not a fucking clue how Washington works. He is stupid, arrogant, and probably deranged.
dawg day
(7,947 posts)Hence the accent and the "ranch".
He also (I suspect) had a lot of neurological damage that started to show up in the second term. He was also incurious and not very interested in much beyond his reflexive right-winging, and he was easily led by Cheney (who wasn't dumb at all).
He was also pretty lazy, not physically, but emotionally. He probably could empathize, and did it on occasion, but generally didn't stir himself to care about other people or consider what they were feeling.
Trump isn't actually even capable of thought or caring, I bet. And he doesn't think there's anything lacking in him because of that. So he's more stupid because he's more arrogant-- in fact, he's probably the most arrogant person I've ever seen. And that makes him stupider than ever, because he can't even think about learning anything. He knows it all... or at least, all he knows is all he needs to know, so if he doesn't know anything, it's still enough for him.
Also, not that I'd ever praise Cheney and Rumsfeld, they were smart advisors-- evil, of course, but no one called them stupid. Trump goes for advisors who are as stupid as he is-- Gorka! And fake. They're all inauthentic in some essential.

(115,732 posts)if he'd bothered to try. But he'd been able to skate by all his life on his father's name and money so he never saw much need to know very much. Trump is similar in a way, in the sense that he also doesn't try to educate himself, but he's worse. He thinks he's smarter than everybody else. I think Bush knew he wasn't smarter than everybody else but it didn't bother him because those other people were doing most of the work for him. Trump, however, wants to run everything but he doesn't know how ignorant and inadequate he is. Where Bush was just lazy, Trump is downright malicious. Bush didn't go out of his way to be cruel, nasty and insulting, but Trump seems to really enjoy humiliating other people, including (and maybe especially) those who work for him.

And she called Putin "ugly".
So, she was a freaking Rhodes Scholar in geography and geopolitics next to this, this, this, this creature, this thing, this abomination which occupies the White House and has final say on our nation's security.
Palin is a god-damned genius next to this idiot.
She knows how to catch a fish! In a net! Fuck... Trump would starve to death if he was locked in a god-damned grocery store.

(5,969 posts)Bush seemed to be more aware about his shortcomings. I also think that the consequences of his alcoholism played a role in potentially harming Bush's mental abilities.

(4,618 posts)...was that he listened to those around him. Unfortunately, those around him included the likes of Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld.

(16,829 posts)Laura Bush and the daughters aren't my cup of tea, but they're a hell of a lot closer to normal than anyone in the Trump clan. I have seen people interviewed who were part of the Bush administration, and they are a lot closer to normal than anyone Trump has brought into the White House.
I can't compare Cheney to Pence, because they both terrify me. Cheney is openly terrifying and Pence - he is really a freak.

(24,370 posts)Yes he is dumber.
Bush was what I call lazy rich boy stupid. He probably could have educated himself a little more but ahh, why bother. He knew he was born into a rich well connected family and would get by just fine in life with the minimum effort. And hell he was right. Just being rich and well connected took him all the way to the White House.
Trump is not only stupid but comes with some very dangerous mental conditions and personality traits that make him dangerous on a whole other level. I firmly believe that we as a country are in greater danger than we have been since the Cuban missile crisis.

Trump is actually good at being a wannabe autocrat and exploiting the media and bullying people. Those skills require some expertise.

(65,174 posts)I think Trump is dumber in the overall sense. But he really sold his lies to gullible people. Fortunately I think enough will awaken for us to win next time, if he is still in office. But Bush never had those stand with him regardless people that Trump manipulated.

(31,261 posts)Would not have guessed that I would see a President stupider than W in my lifetime, but low and behold. Tack on that Trump is a petty sob and we get a really bad situation for citizens.
I am willing to bet you dollars for donuts that if Trump personally found that one of us criticized him and he could get away with it, he would personally demand that the IRS audit us back 20 years (a period outside law), because he know that he could likely get away with that type of abuse of power.

(49,389 posts)W wanted to appear to be a regular guy you would want to drink a beer with, or go hotroddin' and racing at the one stoplight in town, then go smoke one and share a bag of Doritoes and a 6-pack. But he did go to an Ivy League school, even if it was as a legacy, and with slightly above average IQ, he probably did most of his own work (but not all, I bet).
Trump does not want too look like a regular guy, even though he is average in so many categories. He wants to be revered, worshipped, tended to, and treated like he kniws more and can do more than anyone. Total narcissist.
