of these others the gun nuts with their NRA babbling points are forcing us to use. Screw them if they are confused by what we mean, no one else is. What was commonly known as the assault weapons ban was signed by Bill Clinton. I'm not sure I ever heard it called anything else. I don't remember anyone debating it or commenting on TV claiming, those aren't assault weapons or any of the crap we hear now, trying to distract and bog down the discussion.

The Webster and wiki definition back us that assault weapon is an appropriate term. Everyone knows it's basically about civilian versions of military combat rifles with large capacity magazines. Provide them with a link to the actual bill.

Title XI: Firearms - Subtitle A: Assault Weapons - Public Safety and Recreational Firearms Use Protection Act - Amends the Federal criminal code to prohibit the manufacture, transfer, or possession of a semiautomatic assault weapon (SAW) as defined or listed under this Act. Sets penalties for violations and for use or possession of such a weapon during a crime of violence or drug trafficking crime. Requires the serial number of any such weapon manufactured after enactment of this Act to clearly show the date on which the weapon was manufactured.

I posted this and a gunsplainer jumped on the SAW acronym and informed me that it actually means squad automatic weapon! The dumbshit doesn't realize that any number of entities can use any acronym they need to simplify their documents. SAW doesn't always have to mean what the army calls one of their light machine guns. If I come across SAW in training material on my job, I'm not going to be confused and think they are talking about a gun.
