I have not yet seen a crowd estimate. (UPDATE: HPD says 15,000!)I could see thousands, but I never had a view high enough to see how far back the crowd went. We started at Tranquility Park downtown, and then stopped in front of Ted Cruz's office, chanting - among other things - VOTE CRUZ OUT!
To me, the highlight was one young man's speech, Dezmond. He was so incredibly poised and well spoken for his age! I expect him to do great things in the future! He was the subject of a viral post by his mother about being willing to sacrifice his own life to protect his classmates if a shooter came to his school. Here is the post if you want to read it: https://www.facebook.com/tanai.benard/posts/10213919492435100
It was a very emotional experience, listening to all the young people speak about their experiences and fears, and their intense drive to ensure "Never Again."
Dezmond:
Police Chief Art Acevedo walked through the crowd, shaking hands and stopping to greet children and hand out stickers to them.
We had 4 or 5 pro-gun counter-protesters:
