(94,597 posts)Too many people seem to WANT to find a conspiracy when they look.
blm
(113,065 posts)That was done with anti-war protests in 2003, too. Pointing out the reluctance of the media to report the numbers with greater accuracy than they are in their initial and current headlines isn't a scream of 'Conspiracy!', it's a deserved criticism of the typical caution that they tend to employ over protests of this nature.

(5,810 posts)Was close to a million people. One city! So not all the MSM purposely underestimated the size of the gatherings. I told my husband that there were marches in all 50 states and he was impressed. These young people have done an awesome job in such a short time. I hope the coalition they are building will keep building and growing. The old gray heads (and some with less gray hair) in DC better pay attention. These kids are not going away. Like my generation felt about Vietnam Nam, like the people who marched with MLK, they have their cause and they wont be deterred.

(34,661 posts)MSM is so friggin afraid of their President that they helped elect. Watch for the snarky feedback for certain members of that group.
Some of us remember the smart ass attacks form MSM in the Late fifties and Sixties.

(113,065 posts)Matthews, after the end of the march, said it may be over a million. So far, that was the only MSM voice heard to use that word.
Print media's early reports are ALL 'thousands'....so far.
NYT:
"Hundreds of thousands of protesters, outraged by a recent massacre at a South Florida school and energized by the students who survived, thronged in streets across the globe in protests on Saturday, demanding action against gun violence in their most ambitious show of strength yet."
Hundreds of thousands across the globe? There were a million in DC, alone.

(39,374 posts)Hundreds of thousands around the country is their lead sentence right now. There were hundreds of thousands in NYC alone today. Bless that liberal media.

(113,065 posts)Not sure why you think my pointing out their widespread use of an obviously inaccurate headline is the problem here.
BTW....When did it become wrong to call out media for inaccurate headlines? I wasn't away from DU for THAT long, was I?

(113,065 posts)kept it below a million for their headlines and that's ok, eh? Hundreds of thousands across the globe....they say.
Still not getting why you would key on this.

(15,124 posts)counting on! Exactly WHO provides "officials results"? The PTB---which includes the elected officials bought and paid for by the NRA.
My wife and I participated in an anti-war March in DC in 2007. We filled 16 blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue for SIXTEEN BLOCKS!
The next morning we were shocked to read that "hundreds" of anti-war protestors had "been almost outnumbered by patriotic counter-protestors". They were peddling bullshit then and they're still shovelling.
MILLIONS! Believe your "lyin' eyes".

(25,862 posts)My best guess is about 2,000 people, possibly as many as 3,000. So with the hundreds of marches across the country, it is easily in the millions.

(5,164 posts)watching now having missed my own local march due to not being well, my father said MSNBC and Cnn said it was 800,000 to 1 mil maybe. Good to see such a great turnout etc. the news notices on my tablet earlier said thousands. That was for DC, if you count the rest of the country and more its millions I guess. Channel 4 NYC just said 1/2 mil.
