It was not full of salacious details about the encounter between Trump and a porn actress. A lot of people seem to have wanted it to be, but CBS wasn't about to engage in that sort of thing on their broadcast. So, they were disappointed.
However, what we did hear about was a dreary account of an older man and younger woman who did engage in sex. There was a spanking with a magazine, sexual intercourse and that's enough information about that for TV. There was very believable information about a threat made against the woman. There was information about the signing of an NDA in exchange for a fairly large sum of money, an agreement made through coercion and fear, according to this woman.
What we heard about was a tawdry little incident and some threats. It would have been boring, except for the fact that the man in the event is now the President of the United States. A man who cheated on his wife at a time when that wife was having a child of the man. It was a picture of a President who is so afraid of this becoming news that threats were made, signatures given and money exchanged.
I wasn't disappointed. The porn actress was believable. The story is outrageous. Threats? Coercion? We've had other Presidents who were unfaithful to their wives, but nothing like this unseemly chain of events. It's news. It's disgusting. Now, we've seen it, and there's no doubt more to come.
We've seen Donald Trump as a boorish, stupid man who cheated and then tried to cover it up. It's not an uncommon story, but that man is acting as President. Combined with his other terrible flaws, it's enough to realize that he shouldn't be in that position.

(146,337 posts)It's the vulnerability point of this whole ugly business. It looks like mistakes have been made in paying the woman off, and those mistakes are the events that may lead to legal consequences. Trump has always run rough-shod over people. But rarely have the consequences caught up with him. Perhaps they will, in this case.
It's just all part of a growing recognition of Trump's unsuitability for the office he holds.

(28,394 posts)If anyone saw the Jimmy Kimmel interview, she was trying to be too cute and coy. On 60 Minutes, she was way more natural, even down to her makeup. I imagine that the attorney is trying to improve (or manipulate) her image to make her seem more credible. She was like a different person.
I do wonder about the guy who threatened her in the parking lot. Could it have been long-time trump body guard, Keith Schiller?

They may or may not believe Stormy Daniels, but it will not matter. As charlatans like Franklin Graham have said, that kind of thing is in Trumps past and he is now a changed, God-fearing man. So long as he is helping them try to overturn Roe v. Wade and attacking minorities, they will support him. And face it, appearances matter and Stormys overly tight blouse and obvious breast augmentation would cause most evangelicals see her as a tramp and thus not to be believed. I hope this story continues to have impact, but I dont think the infidelity part of it will. The part that may have an impact is the illegality of the $130,000 if it is seen as a campaign contribution.

(5,815 posts)that will emerge to distract or enthrall us. tRump is used to PR, any kind of PR. He wants us talking about him and he will do whatever it takes to get us yapping about him. He has learned (sadly) that behavior that would sink anyone else just seems to go nowhere with him. It is just a part of who he is.
I think at some point (SOON, I hope) Americans will grow weary of scandals that become routine. Yes, weve had other presidents who did scandalous things but it was not the all consuming thing about them. With tRump it is understood that he THINKS he is irresistible to women and he likes it that way. Even at 71 he wants to keep the myth going that women find him charming and sexy. Truth be known, the women who did engage in sexual activities with him did so out of fear or in exchange for what they thought he could do for them. Not one of them is rushing to the microphone to say what a great guy he is or how much they love him.
tRump has taken us to a new place for our President. He has made it almost okay to cheat, lie, have casual sex and brag about it. I do hope that Americans will wake up and realize that our President should be more concerned about things other than sex scandals. May we all grow weary of taudry and sleezey details of his latest scandal. Perhaps that is asking for too much. Americans DO love a good sex scandal. (11,630 posts)Some suggest she is a "handler" and actually an agent of Russia. Others suggest she was a high-paid call-girl who married for a lavish lifestyle and fat bank account. Not many have suggested she married for love from what I have seen. That seems only a remote possibility.
If the first is true she will stay until she is "recalled."
If the second is true she has one thing going for her: she sleeps separately and no longer has a wifely duty other than public appearances as his wife and now First Lady. I am sure she is compensated to keep this up during the presidency and while Barron is still a dependent child. Her legal agreements must be kept current and pretty tight. tRump was up to his eyeballs in crime by the time Melania came on the scene and so I don't think the current revelations change much.
Besides, tRump has plenty of dirt on Melania if the second scenario is the case. He could let it all loose which would end her acquired social standing due to her arrangement and everyone, including Barron would learn all that is locked away with her legal agreements of those missing "modeling" years. My guess is she is trapped by her own ambitions.
If the last possibility was true, why the hell would she stay? Your question is valid. I think it is unlikely she is a traditional wife in any sense.

She is weighing which is more humiliating: remaining married to tRump or having all the dirt about her past hit the fan. Either way she has put herself where she currently is and I have no sympathy for her.
If she wanted to, she could embrace her First Lady role and do something with it--regardless of her situation. The fact that she doesn't tells me she couldn't care less about being a better person or our country.

salciousness matters is that it makes a worse media story and public opinion problem for Trump. But on the contrary, the encounter was revealed to not be an affair, not on-going, but a one-time stand, and she was the "aggressor" by telling him to drop his pants. This is how Patriarchal thinking works: She's a fallen woman who came on to him and he, "poor guy", just responded.
The threat story will devolve into a he said-she said draw. The thug will probably never be found.
Liberal pundits this morning are saying that the Campaign Finance watchdog rarely does anything about illegal contributions and at worst Trump's lawyer will be given a fine of 50K or something. You'd think that the NY State Bar would want to disbar him, but that's no big deal in terms of bringing down Trump.
I think it became a kind of smaller story after the interview than it had been before. Clearly Evangelicals and his base don't care at all about him cheating on his wife.
Her two signed statements that none of it happened will be used against her veracityendlessly.

(14,187 posts)Why Putin has tRdump by the balls and squeezes his testicles to keep him in line.
Reprehensible conduct and behavior means nothing to some...
Reprehensible - why do you say that ?
* Reprehensible conduct and behavior by someone who currently resides in our White House.
* Reprehensible enough that he wants to keep it a secret.
* Reprehensible enough that he is willing to have his goons threaten any one who would reveal this conduct and behavior.
* Reprehensible enough that he is willing to pay out large sums of money to buy someone's silence.
* Reprehensible enough that he lies to the public that the sexual affair ever happened because if the truth and reality came out it could prove very awkward and damaging.
* Reprehensible enough that a super secret NDA was engineered to cover any foot prints that would reveal this conduct or behavior.
* Reprehensible enough that the perpetrator (tRdump) has attempted to block the CBC - 60 Minute segment from broadcasting the Stormy details.
* Reprehensible enough that agents of tRdump are suing Stormy for $20 million for revealing details of an affair tRdump says never happened.
------------------------------
If nothing else the above proves the man currently occupying the White House is highly susceptible to being blackmailed.
That is a dangerous place for the national security of this country.
This reprehensible conduct and behavior is likely the same type of highly embarrassing kompromat Russia/Putin holds over and is using against tRdump while forcing him to act in Russia's best interests rather than the best interests of the United States of America.
This tRdump/Stormy tryst episode, the Playboy Bunny tryst episode, and the other multiple trysts of matrimonial infidelities, sexual harassment, and other inappropriate sexual behaviors are not nothing burgers. They could well be the key the why, the how, the where of the kompromat tRdump gave to Putin on a silver platter and how Putin uses this insane/madman sexual behavior to exploit tRump and exploit AMERICA because of this kompromat.
TRdump is a man of many human weaknesses he is ripe and susceptible to being controlled as a puppet. This is likely why Putin has our pResident by the balls and has total control over him. If tRdump steps out of line Putin squeezes his testicles. Then there is the question of financial kompromat - Putin likely can put the squeeze on tRdump's wallet and send his financial well being into turmoil so he crashes and burns.
Anyone who calls this a nothing burgers has failed critical thinking - forensic crime scene - course study 101.
This could be the main key and component to bringing tRdump down and out of the people's White House and hopefully locked up in jail. The more fronts we approach and attack from the sooner we get rid of this criminal thug masquarading as America's President.
