No other demographic group supports President Trump more than white evangelicals. Nearly 8 in 10 white evangelical Protestants approve of Trump's job performance, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center.
While sex scandals, from allegations of sexual assault to consensual affairs, continue to plague this presidency, a significant drop in support from white evangelicals is not likely to happen.
Millions of people tuned in to 60 Minutes on Sunday night to watch adult-film actress Stormy Daniels detail her alleged affair with the president shortly after his third wife gave birth to his youngest child. The interview came days after former Playboy centerfold Karen McDougal shared details of her alleged affair with Trump in a CNN interview.
Trump has denied the allegations, and White House staffers often attack the character of the accusers. But a new poll shows that more white evangelicals believe Daniels and McDougal over the man some religious leaders have called evangelicals dream president.
According to a recent CNN Link to tweet
" target="_blank">poll, 4 in 10 white evangelicals, or 40 percent, believe the women involved in reports about Trumps alleged infidelities. The share who believe Trump is a bit lower 36 percent. An additional 24 percent are unsure.

Practically every mortal man of note in the Bible had multiple wives, dalliances, etc..
They honestly DO NOT CARE about it.
Take Lot, for example. Some complete strange men show up as guests in his house, and a crowd of perverts demands that Lot send the strange men out to engage in sex with them. What does Lot do? He says, "Here, take my daughters instead."
Jesus shows up at a well where a woman is nearby. He tells her to fetch him water, and calls her a whore.

(37,428 posts)Most Americans already recognize Trump as a pampered, petty and talentless airhead.
All the repeated scandals can do is chip away at the support of those who were once willing to vote for him--but they do. There is no other reason for the grifter-in-chief to have kicked his 2020 campaign officially into gear so quickly. He needs to steal as much as he can before the myth of Trump finally collapses.

When the impeachment proceedings get going, there is going to be an irreducible node of stubborn support for Trump (Don't believe it? There are still partisans who think that Nixon didn't get a fair shake). Anyone we can bump out of that node ahead of time will be fewer to froth and agitate that Trump is being hounded from office. If 40% of white evangelicals believe the women, that's good. We need to work on the 24% who aren't sure, and move as many out of the 36% camp as we can between now and the drafting of charges.
There are those authoritarians who will stick with Trump to the bitter end; but there are still some to move off the schneid.
