(1,151 posts)newspapers wanting me to pay to read content!" Such indignity, but I bet they don't volunteer at their job. Why should journalists? As a creative professional, that attitude drives me crazy. Everyone wants free photos, free graphics, free music, free reading material, and they get so huffy when they can't have it (or the free stuff is utter crap).

And that $40 doesn't include paid subscriptions to print (New Yorker, New Scientist) that also include online access.
While I love the NYT, Guardian, others - I'm not sure that I get the value from each.
Perhaps what they should be doing is to come up with a universal payment model. Each article is rated at $0.xx, perhaps based on its origin and its supposed worth. I can pay some fixed amount per month that gives me a good discount to read these articles, if I want.
Frankly, the monthly dinging and the auto-renewal will drive me away.

It is no wonder so many are struggling and/or failing.
