Major news story (under) reported in U.S. News(17 protesters killed in Palestine, hundreds shot)

Last edited Thu Apr 5, 2018, 10:09 AM - Edit history (1)

No major sources in the U.S. (other than the two listed below) reported on 17 deaths in a protest in Palestine last Friday. (I googled Search ...."17 Deaths of Palestinian Protesters"

Washington Post:

https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/i-dont-want-this-life-10-palestinians-shot-dead-by-israeli-army-on-gaza-border/2018/03/30/2cec8d16-341b-11e8-b6bd-0084a1666987_story.html?utm_term=.be54fb977f28

I did find another one at U.S.A. Today: ....last Friday..

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2018/03/30/least-5-dead-israeli-troops-fire-palestinian-protesters-gaza-security-fence/472408002/

There were many sources from Great Britain which can be found by searching for 17 Deaths of Palestinian Protesters

I must be honest...this is the first I have read that 17 protesters were killed by Israeli soldiers last weekend. Today is Wednesday

...if 17 protesters were killed in Great Britain or France, or U.S.A. on Friday and Sat it would be all over all the news..constantly.. also (at least in my opinion) ALSO...HUNDREDS WERE SHOT BY THE SOLDIERS.. ??????? .......I added the word... (under) to headline on 4/5/18 at 9:33 ET

There were at least two threads in GD on Saturday that got greater response, although I think they were locked.

And discussing the I/P issue in GD is a violation of the Statement of Purpose for the forum so they would have been locked, but it's acceptable in LBN - which it certainly was! - so I was surprised not to see such major news there. Thanks for finding the thread.

Perhaps the other stories had less impact.. This one in latest news had a headline that said 8 killed in confrontation. it wasn't 17 killed. Also, within the story, it said that the protest originated as a peaceful protest. In other stories, that was part of the headline. If I saw this, (and I am not sure that I saw it) since the headline read confrontation..rather than protest, I might have passed it by.
My other source of news, CNN did not have it as the major story when I looked on Saturday. If the CNN story had read 17 killed, one thousand shot by Israeli solders, I would have read it. It didn't say that. The headline on the story in LBN did not say that...

It was a "confrontation"..not a "peaceful protest"...So the story was incomplete compared to other reports in my opinion...or perhaps the other reports were more sensational..

But in reference to the fact that I did not see it,, as well as many others who did not see it..the headline was incomplete in my opinion..Should have read...

17 Killed, one Thousand Shot by Israeli Soldiers
That is what happened, and was not reported as such here or at CNN where I looked on Saturday. Because if had seen that headline, I would have read that story and thought about it. It was awful. And I consider myself someone up on the news. I might add, on my Sunday search for news, I did not see that headline either..
17 killed, one Thousand Shot by Israeli Soldiers

In my opinion, it was a way to downplay the massacre by Israel. Further, this was not covered in the same way that the killings on the bridge in London was covered. That one was covered for days after the event. This one, with more deaths, and more injuries, was not covered in the same way.

In my opinion it was deliberately given less coverage than it deserved. Think about it... one thousand shot by the soldiers..or even 500 shot by the soldiers? Did that get national coverage?..like the London Bridge killings?
or other events where there are shootings and deaths?
.... This killing by Israeli soldiers was under reported in my opinion, and that was on purpose. I consider myself someone who follows news, and I didn't really hear about it till yesterday...Wednesday.. It was not given the kind of coverage that this got in Europe and probably throughout the Middle East. It was not given the kind of coverage if the exact same thing happened in Great Britain or France or Canada or even Mexico. One thousand shot by the soldiers of major country..Protesters? Something that was supposed to be a peaceful protest that evolved into a mass shooting?

Let alone a mass shooting - anywhere! And the news channels - dId they interrupt regular programming to report on this? I didn't even see followup except for last night on Chris Hayes show.

Excellent post

Don't forget that the US stopped the UN Security Council from having an investigation into this slaughter of innocents.

"Refugees drowning in the Mediterranean"

There is a feeling ..who cares about them? Well guess what, they are trying to get freedom too..

Just like the protesters in Gaza
...It is ugly, it is mean, it is awful, but they want their freedom..You don't have to agree, but we need to listen..

If close to one thousand were shot by the soldiers, then this will cause major problems for Israel and it's leadership. I am sure that is what is happening now..

Can you imagine..just imagine. a protest in the U.S. where the cops, shot and killed 17, and one thousand were shot and injured..

What would happen to the police chief of that city? The mayor who gave the order, and the council members who supported the mayor? In Israel, this story will not go away. It is awful.

This was the first story I saw on the search....I searched these 3 words..."London Bridge Killings"

You can try the search yourself...with those 3 words......London Bridge Killings
