MD-01: Is Andy Harris' House seat in danger of flipping?

By all accounts, the Republican anesthesiologist's House seat is his to win come November.

Only some Democrats don't think so. Amid a surge in Democratic victories in recent months, state party leaders and an unusually large slate of challengers are testing Harris' bulwark.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in February announced it was adding the seat to its list of more than 100 targets for 2018. It is the largest number of seats the group has considered in play in at least a decade.

Maryland Democratic Party leaders deem Harris' biggest weakness to be his staunch opposition to the Affordable Care Act, which has provided health insurance access to thousands of 1st District residents.

Harris has voted repeatedly to repeal the Obama-era reform law in what turned out to be symbolic votes. He also supported last year's GOP-crafted replacement, which was narrowly voted down in the Senate.
