Trump Tower blaze kills man on floor without sprinklers

A raging inferno erupted inside Trump Tower Saturday night, killing a 67-year-old man who lived on a floor without sprinklers, authorities said.

Todd Brassner, an art dealer who was friends with Andy Warhol, was found unconscious on the 50th floor of the posh Fifth Ave. high-rise, authorities said.

He was declared dead at Mt. Sinai-West Hospital.

“The entire apartment was on fire,” said FDNY Commissioner Dan Nigro at a press conference at the scene.

“The upper floors, which are residence floors, are not sprinklered,” he added. “But the building sure stood up quite well.”

I thought sprinklers were mandatory in those big buildings.

with a deadline for older commercial in 2019.

They aren't mandatory for older residential apartments that haven't undergone major renovations.

it was built during the 80s. I've heard no allegations that they broke the law by not having sprinklers, but I would not think of a building built during the 80s being in the older category.
