NY Daily News, in article on man killed in fire, notes Trump's "tone-deaf tweet"

A raging inferno erupted inside Trump Tower Saturday night, killing a 67-year-old man who lived on a floor without sprinklers, authorities said.

Todd Brassner, an art dealer who was friends with Andy Warhol, was found unconscious on the 50th floor of the posh Fifth Ave. high-rise, authorities said.

Brassner sold a series of Warhol prints, including a 1967 self-portrait that went for $601,000 in 2007. His collection once included a 1978 Marilyn Monroe print by Warhol inscribed “to Todd.”

But Brassner had fallen on hard times of late, filing for bankruptcy in 2015.

“The limited support of his family coupled with his medical problems caused the debtor to fall into arrears on his mortgage, credit card payments and line of credit payments,” says the filing, which notes his apartment is worth $2.5 million.

-snip-

Before officials revealed the fatality, President Trump fired off a tone-deaf tweet crowing about the building’s construction.

“Fire at Trump Tower is out. Very confined (well built building). Firemen (and women) did a great job. THANK YOU!”

By 10:30 p.m., Trump had made no mention of the death at his building.

The question becomes, how will the man who calls himself president, use this mans awful death to get Americans to update and renovate his entire building? Akin to the renovations bc his wife stays there.

after two-and-a-half hours and still spread, killed and injured, isn't indicative of a "well-built building," and may suggest a poorly maintained building, especially as this is the second fire in four months.

when certain codes were implemented - notably for something as expensive to retrofit/install as sprinklers. However new construction probably would have had to have it. That shifts the concern to the fire alarm system (even if just a hallway fire alarm pull box) and whether anything sounded. According to news reports, the alarms sounded but whether anyone in a condo/apartment heard it is another story.

I know I lived in a hi-rise for years (and there were no sprinklers) and not long before I moved, they came through and retrofitted the entire building with an improved fire alarm system that literally had hard-wired siren "blasters" in every apartment, so that when the fire alarm was triggered anywhere in the building, you knew it (if you were hearing-abled), and the system was setup to automatically call the FD. This was after someone died from smoke inhalation due to a fire in his apartment.

My workplace (federal) did have upgraded sprinklers that had been retrofitted into the building (old building) about 20 years ago. They also updated the alarm system to include a strobe light (for hearing impaired) on the alarm speakers and the system also included prerecorded voice instructions (and intercom capability). The only other places I remember seeing sprinklers, from early on in my life, were the old department stores.

might have installed sprinklers anyway as a precaution.

he's obviously hiding it from his stupid fans.. guess they can't handle that he bragged about the building and then find out a person perished in his Sprinkler FREE high rises

Do they know how it started yet?

Thanks, highplainsdem
