Kansas Lawmakers Pass $534M School Funding Plan

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The Latest on the Kansas Legislature’s debate on increasing school funding to meet a court mandate (all times local):

12:26 a.m. Sunday

Kansas legislators have given their final approval to an increase in spending on the state’s public schools amid intense pressure to respond to a court mandate.

The Senate approved a bill early Sunday to phase in a $534 million increase in education funding over five years. The vote was 21-19.

The House approved the bill on a 63-56 vote. The measure goes to Republican Gov. Jeff Colyer, who has already endorsed it publicly.

The Kansas Supreme Court ruled in October that the state’s current education funding of more than $4 billion a year isn’t sufficient. Many Democrats said the plan will not satisfy the court.

I just don't get why education is dismissed by the so called adults in charge and seen as unimportant.
Why putting our kids in falling apart schools with inadequate materials and outdated books is okay.
Why running teachers who are certified out of the profession and hire people who are not 'real' teachers to do the job and pay them minimum wages is seen as smart policy.
Many of these lawmakers went to school when their parents and grandparents gladly funded the schools to make sure the kids got a good education in functioning buildings. Were fed good lunches. Were provided with the best.
There was pride in giving the kids the best education so they could be leaders and well rounded adults.
But, those adults do not feel the same towards their kids and have destroyed education

are getting our collective clocks cleaned by other countries---------------they get it, but these libertarian, self promoting right wing fascist think, I got mine so what, they are in my opinion narcissistic.
I got my education when I was growing in the military and we had the finest educators because tax dollars was used to educate, ever since Ronald Reagan and what he did out in California with education when he was governor, was and has been used as a model to attack education, ever since then.

And as for Kansas and other states being run by republicans, damn near everyone of those pukes got educated off the public doles in some shape or form----------------they are hypocrites...................its that simple

Its like the old axiom you pay for what you get..............and Brownback and his legacy and others need to be held accountable---------------trickle down economics does not work in education, jobs, taxes, nothing, never has and never will and as soon as Kansas comes to the realization the better, they can hide there collective head in the ground, but paying a college coach over 3 million a year out of state coffers, just to go to the NCAA games does not help the situation when it comes to public costs of education
