Why is it so stressful to talk politics with the other side?

If we are to make progress or survive as a country, we must communicate with the other sides. Once you understand the essence of this article, it will make it that much easier.

"Even though people can be passionate about their favorite sports teams, they can argue about which basketball team is the best without destroying friendships. In the workplace, co-workers can often dispute strategies and approaches without risking a long-term fallout."

2. If I have a discussion with my neighbor about how to best wash a car...

...we're starting from a common base of reality: what a car is, what a freshly-washed car should look like, what a reasonable amount of effort to get the car clean would be.

On the other hand, if my neighbor goes around ranting, "SOAP IS EVIL!! WAX IS PERVERTED!! ONLY WHITE CARS MATTER!!", the discussion isn't going to be too productive.

Both sides of the discussion have to see progress as a good thing.

In order for society to survive, both sides have to agree that society SHOULD survive.

The foundational values between the two groups have to be the same. They’re not.

of illegals vote, and lay awake at night thinking someone's gonna git their gunz, it's a lost cause. Those are just an easy three off the top of my head. Many more topics could qualify.

They can't budge me from knowing that it's all about the rampant looting of the last almost 40 years. The wealth/income gap that is so huge, most people don't even understand how much they have taken. It's mostly just gaming the system to take more, without contributing anything of value. Corporate officers aren't even expected to run a company successfully by what used to be our standards.

There has to be a certain percentage of Trump voters, small as it may be, that might wise up. I try not to be too hostile on FB and elsewhere, there are some we may need on our side some day soon.

..in the obvious attempt to diminish the power of the other, and the other thusly takes position of soundly protecting what it has built & protecting what it sees as surviving for a future against an unrelenting coup.

See?
