Watching Paterno on HBO

I know two people who played for him, one of whom went on to play in the NFL, and I have met"Joe Popp". I am about half way through.

I don't know if it was unique to Paterno or most coaches/ elite athletes who are so focused on their sport that they become oblivious to the world around them. It's amazing that he didn't realize the gravity of the scandal that surrounded him. I can see how some athletes with serious character issues get a pass.
