I would hate to be judged by my worst moment or moments but Chappaquiddick was a really bad moment for Ted Kennedy. It is what it is or more accurately it was what it was.
In his own words Ted Kennedy said he had been afraid and had "made terrible decisions" and had to live with the guilt for more than four decades.

It's all part of the Kennedy legacy which is overall positive but nonetheless complex.
As to the movie it had a mediocre opening:

I doubt it moves Kennedyphiles, Kennedyphobes, or anybody.

(6,377 posts)Ironic to say, but I've probably heard more people talking about it on DU than anywhere else. It doesn't appear to have really made a dent in the current news cycle.

(870 posts)The Right Wing Money that backed this movie.... ? Does anyone ask the question, as to "why now"...? Does anyone understand how the promotions sways negativity about the Democrats? Has anyone figured out how this embolden Right Winger's Narrative... while they promote every kind of vile imaginable ... Tools of Deflection are Many, and the Tools of Mis-Directions are many..
It's not just a movie... the same as the old version of a Birth of Nation was not just a movie, but a propaganda tool to hardens the promotion of racism and it achieved that objective!!! It's Right Wing Base Food!!! and Food for those they can enlist....
People need to think beyond Drama and Entertainment... and think beyond being continually hoodwinked and usurped by every means possible by a Right Wing Conservative Agenda of Republican Madness.
Geez!!!!!!!!!!! We better get smarter and do so quickly.... if we understand what we are up against. Right Wing system and its establishment has shown there is nothing they will not do... to push their agenda.
We are far too Gullible!!!!
does anyone understand the premise of "Tarnish the Legacy" by poisoning the root". If one wants to kill a plants from growing, they poision the root... Republican are good at this type of thing... and we keep falling for it, blind as ever... then sit back wondering how did it happen.
They took over congress and we never figured out why and how, and once they did they took over the Presidency, and we sit baffled as to how.... when fact is... THEY CONTROLLED THE NARRATIVE.... They set the Democrats up shortly after President Obama won, when they dominated the Narrative, and when he won a second time, they saw the passivity of the people not to follow through, and they dominated the congress, and we sat back baffled.... unaware of what was coming next. Now we got what came next, and its an Atrocity Upon and Against America and Its People.... Still we have no control of the narrative and again fall prey to their means of tactics.
Wake Up Time is Upon US !!!!!!!!!!!!!

(99,710 posts)The studio will likely lose money and those seeing it tend to be older people:
Between acquisition cost and P&A, Entertainment Studios is in for $20M. Other film finance sources claim this morning they dont know how its possible for Chappaquiddick to be profitable, and theyre guessing the pic wont get much past $17M.The pic over-indexed in places like Boston and senior enclaves like Palm Beach and Fort Myers, Florida. CinemaScore showed 73% over 50, but they only gave it a B-. PostTrak reports females over 25 buying the most tickets at 44% but giving the movie a 72% overall positive, while men 25+ at 38% gave the Ted Kennedy movie an 80% positive.

(14,167 posts)Pretty sure right-wing interests backed this movie to take down Joe Kennedy, who they view as the biggest threat to their power. He has massive and broad appeal from Hillbilly Heaven through Appalachia.
This movie was made to hurt the Kennedy family specifically, as a threat to any ambition or aspirations Joe Kennedy might have toward the Presidency. Moreover it is a general attempt to dampen Democratic enthusiasm prior to the midterms.

(12,858 posts)He said this in his suit against Deborah Lipstadt for what she said about him in her book about the holocaust deniers. (In late 90s IIRC.)
The trial was a legal mess because Irving had to prove that the holocaust didn't happen; Lipstadt had to show that it did.
Richard Evans, the noted UK professor of German history, wrote a book about the trial.
