There’s a photo of Donald Trump from last weekend that I can’t stop thinking about. It’s from the Easter service in Palm Beach, where he’s standing between Tiffany and his wife, Melania, an odd sight for sure. I assume Melania is saying, “Do you two know each other?” But that’s not even the compelling part.



The really compelling part is that his pant legs are enormous. They’re each roughly the circumference of a healthy toddler’s head. They could fit comfortably around The Rock’s thighs—an image no one wanted to consider, but in the name of this investigation, we must. The angle of the photo makes it even more dramatic, with the grass hiding the president’s feet, shortening his overall frame and terminating his body at a wide point. Even so, those hems do not lie.

Per widely accepted lore, Trump buys expensive suits, but doesn’t have them tailored to fit his body. In 2004’s Trump: Think Like a Billionaire, “he” wrote, “I wear Brioni suits, which I buy off the rack.” Hope Hicks once confirmed that he bought Brioni suits and also wore Martin Greenfield Clothiers. Both are companies willing and able to set a man back many thousands of dollars, and yet the bagginess of it all gives the look a discount feel.

One may be able to distill an entire worldview from a self-professed billionaire’s choice to forego tailoring an expensive suit, but I’m wondering if there’s something far more nefarious afoot—something that, if proven, could impact the course of this American experiment forever: are the president’s pant legs getting wider?

his pant legs make him look even dumpier than he already is. They are such a strange family it's hard to figure out why Melania doesn't say something to him. It's my opinion that Melania does not have good fashion sense.

I'd go so far as to use one of 45's favorite words: "elegant"

but there is a strong trend to ridicule a particular item of clothing merely because Trump was wearing it - without any recognition that the item may (generically) be a very stylish item.

Note the comments in this thread referred to the style as "dictator wear."

The post I responded to asked if it was a skirt attached to a jacket, not recognizing it as a long overcoat.

If I recall correctly, the previous thread I responded to questioned his masculinity for wearing such a coat.

Just because Trump looks ridiculous in it doesn't make the item of clothing ridiculous.

He needs to allow a good tailor to make his clothes fit him better. He always looks like he's wearing someone else's clothes. I don't think there's anything wrong with his choice to wear a long overcoat. It just didn't fit well. I've got a whole lot of complaints about 45, but what he wears is WAY down the list.

I think 45 sees what he wants to see when he looks in the mirror.

All that said, I always thought that the way that President Obama dressed and carried himself was befitting of his position.

That's what just floors me. He's such a slob - ill fitting clothes, tape for a tie tac, that bizarre origami hairdo (hairigami) and then he picks someone and makes fun of their looks.

Besides, mocking him helps alleviate my stress.

He subconsciously despises what he looks like so he lashes out and criticizes others on their looks. Either that, or he's never looked in a mirror before.
