I want to donate to help turn Congress blue this November. What would be the best place? ActBlue.com? Others?

(58,899 posts)I would go broke and crazy trying to help every candidate I think is worthy of attention, so i just cover my eyes during the primary season (when people get the most agitated with the DCCC), give $10/month and trust them to make the right decisions for the Fall General.
I gave to them this year, but I have another suggestion. Since so many women are running this time around, take a look at Emily's List. I have not given to them this year. But I like them.

(30,745 posts)I will keep that in mind when I use my budgeted money to give to political groups. There is only so much to go around, and I want to use my money wisely.

(31,261 posts)The tip you leave it to help cover ActBlue expenses. Some good suggestions were made, DCCC, local DNC, State DNC, national DNC, also the Senate Democratic Campaign Committee.

Otherwise, I donate to individual candidates whose positions I trust. I especially like Amy McGrath of Kentucky.

(31,261 posts)I trust your instincts on this. I will contribute to the DCCC and like Peggy, individual democratic candidates when they pop on my screen, as long as they are not in a primary with only democrats.

(58,899 posts)I give $10/month to Jacky Rosen in Nevada because the state is next door and has cheaper markets.

(130,972 posts)and have heard, through the years, that ActBlue has been less than forthcoming with the funds We the People contribute to them to designated candidates. I used them as a vehicle a few years ago, but have changed my approach.

(31,261 posts)I think that I started using them when the "staff" was around six people. It has grown since, but I have never questioned the integrity of the organization. I once thought that it set the recurring donation automatically to recurring, but it looks like ActBlue leaves that up to the democratic campaigns.

(31,261 posts)ANY democrat can use the service to make fundraising easier. If you are supporting something other than democrats, you appear to be in the wrong place.

(31,261 posts)The best choice would be to donate to your state or county DNC. Next the national DNC. If you follow Emily's List, look at the candidates that they are backing. If you have family in the military, look at democrats that are former military. People on DU present names, but check to insure they are not backing just one democrat in a primary between only democrats.
