The fact, for instance, that the constitution reserves the word treason for rather specific situations does not mean we have no way of charging traitors with betraying their country in other situations. We do, of course, using other words that also have specific meanings under the law.

Because the legal definition of treason is tightly worded and difficult to prove, the Dept. of Justice has avoided using it. So it's collusion to them, it's treason to the rest of us.
To the GOP it's "same thing, different day."

(6,916 posts)Rosenstein wrote a letter to Mueller in Aug 2017, telling Mueller what crimes fell under the scope of his investigation. One of the specific points was that Mueller authorized to investigation collusion with Russia. I posted that a few days ago.
So I noticed, Mr. Toobin. You are right that it didnt get much coverage. But thats because its not that important, I think. Mueller seems likely to charge conspiracy to defraud the US. All that really matters is which statute is violated.
