(10,274 posts)Trump has sold out his Nation just to pad his own wallet and ego. When this is DONE done, there won't be any comparison to make. Nixon died disgraced. But not in Federal Prison.
Pope George Ringo II
(1,896 posts)But the plain fact is that Nixon actually had virtues. He left the Oval Office to go personally ask protesters what they wanted. AFAIK, he's the last President to do that. The "Checkers Speech" was made by a father who genuinely loved his children, and I think many of us can connect with that in a way we can't with a mercenary opportunist. Nixon's military service is honorable enough, albeit unspectacular. I think we're all clear on his flaws, but he was a three-dimensional human being who set a new standard for failure in the crucible of the White House.
I just can't find anything nice at all to say about Trump, and he was a contemptible human being long before he sniffed the White House. He might as well be a Bond villain.

(12,590 posts)and given that Cohen is Trump's self-described "fixer," there's bound to be some damning stuff there. Much of it will not be protected by attorney-client privilege, according to several ex-U.S. attorneys on MSNBC. Anything that relates to the commission of a crime falls in that category, for instance.
Also, the former federal prosecutors were talking about how many institutional hurdles have to be cleared before the FBI will approach a federal judge to get a search warrant. Getting a search warrant for a lawyer is a big deal, not entered into lightly. In other words, you don't do it unless you've got more than just a feeling that there's something rotten in Denmark.
My understanding is that Mueller approached Rosenstein about referring this case to the Southern District of New York, rather than handle it as part of the Russia probe. Rosenstein approved the referral, and that means even if Trump fires (or attempts to fire) Mueller, there's still a major investigation involving his personal lawyer that will be in progress. And since Trump and Cohen have had a long time business relationship, any investigation into Cohen's doings will most likely include IQ45.
What's that crunching sound? It's Donnie Two Scoops' nuts in a vice.

(7,220 posts)A few quotes for those with no TV, followed by quick fact-checks:
"They' broke into my personal attorney's office (Actually, "they" were the FBI, and "they" had a warrant; otherwise anything "they" seized would be inadmissible.)
"The stock market is down, and it was way up until this happened" (aka, It's the FBI's fault the market tumbled)
"Witch Hunt" (knee-jerk, default response)
"My opponent's acid-washed emails" (also a default response, with random reference to a shitty '80's fashion trend)
"This is an attack on America" (thinks he's above the law and/or HE is the law)
"This is a disgrace" (projecting, presumably)
"Sessions made a terrible mistake for the country by recusing himself" (apparently still thinks the AG is there to protect him)
"Many people have said I should fire Mueller" (actually the one thing pretty much everyone agrees on is exactly the opposite)
