Romney defends insulting Palestinians: Hey, I also said Mexico's culture sucks! And Ecuador's too!
by Jed Lewison
So Mitt Romney and his campaign are hopping mad at reports that he was singling out Palestinians for insult yesterday in Israel when he said they are poorer than Israelis because they have an inferior culture. Naturally, Romneyland wants a retraction ... retroactively, if possible.
So Romneyland is whining about Mitt's remarks being taken out of context? Now that's rich. And what is the context they wish to point out? Umm:
So apparently Romney wants you to know that he wasn't just knocking Palestinian culture, he was also knocking Ecuador's and Mexico's.
p.s.: Not that Mitt has any credibility on this topic, but he claimed Israeli per capita GDP is $21,000 compared to $10,000 for Palestinians. According to the CIA World Fact Book, the numbers are actually $31,400 for Israel and $2,900 for Palestinians. Other sources put the gap as high as 20:1, nowhere near Romney's 2:1 ratio. So Romney's not just insulting to just about everybody he meets, he's also not well informed.

Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul on Monday disputed reports of Romneys comments. Weve asked for a correction for his remarks being grossly mischaracterized, Saul said.
So Romneyland is whining about Mitt's remarks being taken out of context? Now that's rich. And what is the context they wish to point out? Umm:
For instance, the campaign said, after mentioning the per capita G.D.P. of Israel and Palestine, Mr. Romney also said: And that is also between other countries that are near or next to each other. Chile and Ecuador, Mexico and the United States.
So apparently Romney wants you to know that he wasn't just knocking Palestinian culture, he was also knocking Ecuador's and Mexico's.
