Being minority leader with the currently administration will not be a pretty place. Sure, he'll have the filibuster and he'll certainly be able to hold off 66 votes for any impeachment conviction but...and I think this is the most important point...he'll lose control of the Senate's day to day activities that feed the news cycle.

What with the daily reports look like from the Senate Intell committee when Warner is writing the committee's agenda and communications. How about Foreign Relations...etc.

Trump's going to start hammering on McConnell like he's Sessions' long lost twin and I think McConnell (unlike Sessions) will sooner vs. later say "f'ck this, I'm going back to the farm in Louisville and pontificate from the sidelines...I don't need this".
