House speakers just don't quit if they think they think their party is keeping the house.

(5,801 posts)I think Mueller is going to have a nice talk with both Ryan and McConnell before this is over.

(30,481 posts)Ive seen some connect the dot stories that didnt seem to amount to much. Mueller isnt the end all be all of political warfare.

(5,801 posts)All those dots are liniing up. Just need to follow the big glowing arrows.

(30,481 posts)Mueller isnt here to play daddy and dress people down. That is the loose type of connection I have been seeing with respect to Ryan.

(5,801 posts)You are damn right Mueller isnt here to dress people down.

I really dont get this thought that Mueller is bringing criminal charges against Ryan. You sure havent made a case.
I notice where some are trying to set the bar.

(128,979 posts)But what may need to be unwound/confirmed is whether an Russian money was laundered and then funneled through his or Turtle's PACs. Would be interesting if that were so...

(30,481 posts)Its a long long way from a story like that to the claim the other poster is making.

(14,531 posts)used information in the DNC stolen emails in an ad campaign. There is also a question of Ryan and others getting Russian money funneled into their campaigns.
Knowing something and proving something are to different things. Do I wish it is proven and Ryan pays a legal price, hell yes. right now I am just happy he will be gone from the house.

A lot of the information was already in the public domain at that point, as well. The case for criminal charges against Ryan has not been made. It was brought to me in a comment as certainty. I have no respect for Ryan. I also understand that Mueller isnt about to press charges against all Republican leadership.

(14,531 posts)my to/two mistake when quoting me? Thanks.
I believe the worm goes to the core of the GOP. I also believe the enormity of how deep this is will not be revealed in my lifetime. At least a few Rs are "retiring" to avoid investigation or as a result of their involvement. It is very possible Mueller has hauled a few in and said, this is what we know about you, now tell us what you know. What they did or know might not be illegal, but it certainly would end their careers and make them and their families toxic to future employers. So they retire and keep their legacy intact.
I also believe there are some Rs that see/know what is coming and had no part with it and don't want to be tainted with it. Getting out while the getting is good.

(128,979 posts)This I expect happened. It would have had to been a choice few and they would have had to have given up enough to tie up a few dangling threads and to help set a trap for the more obvious ones like Nunes and Rohrabacher. And I actually wouldn't be surprised if Eddie Munster was hauled in there specifically due to those two. He really has become subdued and even gone quiet (in a relative sense given his position) this session and the fact that Nunes is completely out of control really raises all sorts of red flags and almost suggests that he is purposely being allowed to do it because he is being surveilled.

(52,227 posts)record numbers of republicans retiring is certainly a good sign already, but when it includes the speaker of the house, wow.
more evidence that they see the writing on the wall and are bailing early. eventually it becomes self-fulfilling, as each retirement makes taking back the house that much easier for us!

(14,531 posts)are not pushing impeachment. Gingrich did that with Clinton, inside polling had the Rs picking up 30 seats. They lost 5 on election day.
Clinton was polling higher than trump is so why take a chance on not gaining as many seats as possible.
The only answer Dems should give on the impeachment question is: We have a rule of law in this country. We shall see what the evidence is and take action based on that evidence. Impeachment may or may not be possible.
Wounded Bear
(58,656 posts)Dems would do well to shrug that off and focus on economics and especially local issues. All politics is local.
Any questions about impeachment should be answered with, "Let's let Mr Mueller finish his investigation. Then we'll see what we need to do."
So, I'm with you on that.
mercuryblues
(14,531 posts)As long as Dems stick to Let the investigation play out, it won't give Rs power.
The 1st Dem who says: Republicans are so desperate to shut down investigations into Russia that they are willing to subvert the rule of law. Why are they so anxious to shut down investigations of Russia hacking our elections? Why are they willing to put Russia's interests over America's interests?
All we, as Democrats, want to do is let the investigation get to the truth and act in a legal and responsible manner, based on evidence.
I will send $100 to.
