Reality dawning on this shameless republican enabler waxing eloquent about his president's tyranny

Jennifer Hayden @Scout_Finch14m14 minutes ago
"It's like Forrest Gump won the presidency, but an evil, really f*cking stupid Forrest Gump."

Unnamed Republican congressman goes off in profane rant: 'We might as well impeach the *******'
https://bit.ly/2He70a0

from Daily Kos:

___Conservative blogger Erik Erickson is reporting that during his trip to Washington, D.C., he met up with an as-of-yet-unnamed Republican congressman, one who has publicly been very supportive of Donald Trump, and during their clandestine walk through the aisles of a grocery store outside of D.C. (they didn’t want to be seen), this Republican congressman absolutely went off on Trump and his disastrous leadership. From Erickson's report:

"I read you writing about this, about wanting to say nice things when you can and criticize when you need to. He may be an idiot, but he's still the President and leader of my party and he is capable of doing some things right," he says before conceding it's usually other people doing the right things in the President's name. "But dammit he's taking us all down with him. We are well and truly f**ked in November. Kevin [McCarthy] is already circling like a green fly circling sh*t trying to take Paul's [Ryan] job because nobody thinks he's sticking around for Nancy [Pelosi]. She's going to f**k up the cafeteria again too. [Lord's name in vain], at least I'll probably lose too and won't have to put up with that sh*t." He won't lose. His district is very Republican.

Hours after publishing this, news began to circulate that Paul Ryan is retiring from Congress. But, let’s get back to the rant, because this is incredible.

"It's like Forrest Gump won the presidency, but an evil, really f*cking stupid Forrest Gump. He can't help himself. He's just a f**king idiot who thinks he's winning when people are b*tching about him. He really does see the world as ratings and attention. I hate Forrest Gump. I listen to your podcast and heard you hate it too. What an overrated piece of sh*t movie. Can you believe it beat the Shawshank Redemption?"

Oh, my. Please continue, congressman.

"I say a lot of shit on TV defending him, even over this. But honestly, I wish the motherf*cker would just go away. We're going to lose the House, lose the Senate, and lose a bunch of states because of him. All his supporters will blame us for what we have or have not done, but he hasn't led. He wakes up in the morning, sh*ts all over Twitter, sh*ts all over us, sh*ts all over his staff, then hits golf balls. F*ck him. Of course, I can't say that in public or I'd get run out of town."

The congressman went on to explain that if key members of the House Judiciary Committee are facing primary battles for their seats, they’ll stick with Trump because they are so fearful of the deplorable base. If they get through the primaries, there is a chance they could get on board with impeachment because Trump is dragging the entire party down.

"Judiciary is stacked with a bunch of people who can win re-election so long as they don't piss off Trump voters in the primary. But if we get to summer and most of the primaries are over, they just might pull the trigger if the President fires Mueller. The sh*t will hit the fan if that happens and I'd vote to impeach him myself. Most of us would, I think. Hell, all the Democrats would and you only need a majority in the House. If we're going to lose because of him, we might as well impeach the motherf**ker. Take him out with us and let Mike [Pence] take over. At least then we could sleep well at night," he said before going off on a tangent about how the situations with Russia and China scare him. Then, "You know having Mike as President would really piss off all the right people, too. They think they hate Trump. Mike is competent," at which point he sighs and laments that there were, in his mind, more than a dozen competent choices in 2016.

There's a lot to unpack there.

First, who is this congressman? He's visible and not on the HJC.

Second, what he said in the first paragraph about Paul Ryan quitting. Here I've been thinking all these GOP folks bailing out is because they don't want to get creamed in the general. From this, it sounds like they know they won't be able to work with Nancy Pelosi as speaker.

And third, a Pence presidency sounds every bit as ugly as we expect. And they know it.

and with a corresponding wind shift in their base, they could be seen as "saving the country", especially since Pence would be primed and ready to go.

I gotta say, that prospect really has me worried too - Pence in, "trump was a sick man, he needs help" and his base (evangelical anyway) doing an about-face and marching to Pence's tune. Never missing a beat. Now, for the Jeff Flakes of our world, they've got future plans, getting out now is good. Wash their hands and wait.

This is what I hate most about politicians. And I mean 99% of them, from either party:

If you actually had the nerve to say that out loud, you’d not only be the next president, you’d be an American hero for generations. Statues would be built in your honor and entire libraries could be filled with autobiographies of you.

Americans like people with the courage to speak their minds. I believe that a failure to simply level with people is a reason for so much voter apathy. Right now what we’re hearing is the same thing all of our friends are saying — even half the ones that voted for Trump — except at least our friends have the guts to say it out loud, to our faces. So much cowardice.

Delivered behind the anonymous screen of someguy Erik "son of Erik" Erickson, who is desperately trying to retrieve his own credibility. I'm guessing a sequel to Profiles in Courage isn't on the horizon any time soon for this crop of public servants or journalists (both terms given their widest possible interpretation).

But a few of the better chains are slowly changing that.

The fresh vegetables and fresh fruit sections in Publix, the best in Florida, is half as large as those supermarket sections in California, Oregon, Washington, New York City, Boston, Washington DC metro.

Pelosi was on the right track.

Is there any idea that you could think of to turn back the pages of history so the Nazi Rethug Party does not stand full blame for this tRdump atrocity ? We are panicked and desperate - the blue tsunami is headed our way.

terrifies me too, but I feel better with the reality that if that were to happen:

1. There would at least be a democratic house in place.
2. There very well could be a democratic senate as well.
3. The stink of Dump would stick to Pence everywhere he went.
4. He'd be all but neutered, left to do nothing but run out the clock on his two years.

That said, he's also a fundy zealot, so like any drone he'd never stop pushing his regressive, hate-filled belief system on everyone. I just don't think it would get very far.

Samantha Bee and Wonkette both analyzed the clues embedded in the tirade, such as:

1. He's a Republican (stated, and essential to the point of the story).

2. He's a man (referred to as "he" by Eric son of Erick, who is unlikely to think of concealing a woman behind a male pronoun).

3. He's a Representative, not a Senator (referenced as "congressman" ).

4. He's not Paul Ryan or Kevin McCarthy (named in the rant).

5. He's not on the Judiciary Committee (referenced as "they" in the rant).

6a. He's afraid of losing the next election.
6b. Eric son of Erick is confident that he'll win given his "very Republican" district.

7. He was around when Nancy Pelosi changed the menu and utensils at the cafeteria.

etc etc....

Anyhoo, both of those worthies applied their Sherlockian Batmanseque detective skills to come up with the same conclusion:

Congressman Pottymouth is... (drum roll)... Peter King (R-IRA, er, R-NY)!
