If Ryan didn't want to be a weekend dad to his kids

why didn't the fucker quit Congress when his first child was born. I thinkhis resignation smacks of two things: 1) it was beginning to look like he was going to get his ass kicked in November and 2) there maybe some Russian/NRA cash in his pile.

Imagine the mindset of what now appears to be most sitting republican house and possible senate members, probably more in the house than senate, maybe not most but close, who willingly, knowingly commited treason to win an election.

LOVE to spend weekends with their family.

You got what you asked for and loved it. How much did your off-shore savings grow when you became speaker?

Now, to make the majority of the country happy, take Turtle with you. I think you've both probably cashed in enough to make it through retirement pretty comfortably. Neither of you will be missed.

us. One year on his leave time he worked construction. I hate that Ryan, retiring to work another job will collect tax money as a pension.

have to be almost grown by now.

Reminds me of Mark Sanford. His ex had to take him to court to keep his from entering her home without her permission. He dropped one of the kids off from a visitation and she wasn't home. His defense was pretty much, it was Super Bowl Sunday and he thought a father and son should watch the game together. The year before he spent Father's Day in Argentina with his mistress.

Ryan is doing this for two possible reasons. And potentially a mixture of both.

The first is he's such an asshole, he genuinely thinks his work is done. He passed his massive, government breaking revenue cut. So he's got his Randian tax break while also his Norquestian "drown in a bathtub" in one shot. There's nothing else he wants to do, the last bit of his agenda has happened, he thinks.

The second is, even in his gerrymandered protected suburban Milwaukee district, he's got a tough fight against a well funded and determined Democratic rival (actually 2 at the moment I believe). He knows he's married to Trump and Trump stinks, even among Republican faithful. Trump never had strong support to begin with and, by popular vote margins in the states he won, the margins were very thin. Trump's only solid support are far right wing loons. Ryan knows they, alone, can't carry the day for him. In short, what should be a slam dunk election, Trump is such a drag that Ryan's job is gonna take a lot of money and energy to keep. Money that greedy asshole would rather go home with than spend to keep a crappy job.

And crappy it is. Ryan was dragged kicking and screaming into the Speaker job, he's had to fight off right-wing attacks on that post a few times. So he did the thing he wanted to do, enrich himself and his pals, and now he's done herding cats, and doesn't want to fight for the right to herd cats, so he's taking his money and running like the chickenshit asshole he is.

they always use the "wanna spend time with the family" bullshit when they resign just before they get creamed in the next election.

Like you said, if they wanted to do that, they'd get a more home friendly job. It's like those maddening hold messages where they come on once a minute and say, "Your call is important to us." If my call is so fucking important, why don't you answer it?
