https://www.democraticunderground.com/100210467576Now I think those innocents were slaughtered to set up this quandary for Spanky.
There is a very good chance that an air/missiles strike would kill Russians, or Iranians,
or civilians. Putin is threatening to shoot down the missiles. Spanky is in a hell of a fix.
How to retaliate?

(33,643 posts)Gotta get the intel from Uncle Vlad as to what (pretend) 'response' he's going to allow his lapdog to have.
Also needs to make sure he owns stock in the company that will building the replacements for the missiles.
Don't worry, some grandstanding, but ultimately ineffective 'thing' ... is coming.

(25,816 posts)If the missiles hit a target, Putin will lose face.
If Putin shoots 'em down, Trump loses face.
It's a no win situation, and yes, will be ultimately ineffective.

(33,643 posts)ESPECiALLY who was responsible.
The Assad gov't had essentially just liberated the city, via some sort of truce ... the rebels were therefore abandoning their stronghold in said city.
When you ponder 'who is MORE LIKELY' to have unleashed the chems if that did in fact happen, to me it seems rather unavoidable that the rebels abandoning the city ... were, vs. the gov't who'd just liberated the city.
Unless it was meant as an Assad 'payback' against the people who'd 'allowed' the rebels to take up residence, in order to discourage other towns in the future from doing the same ... I suppose that's possible.
But absent some actual 'proof', my first instinct would be to suspect the departing rebels.
