Retaliate? Nothing? Is there proof it actually occurred?
Fake news?
Yeah, it really happened.

(9,766 posts)I'm not saying it didn't, but it's a consideration.

(111,095 posts)Because we get very little live coverage out of Syria. But as soon as there is a reported gas attack, the news channels have all sorts of video coverage?
It may have happened but I would prefer to see more coverage and first-hand witnesses interviewed. Is that too much to ask before we go to war?

(59,503 posts)The UK, France and the US, likely have sources of differing credibility. I am sure one really difficult piece of this is finding the truth. Consider that even before Trump none of these countries wanted to play a bigger role in the Syrian Civil War. That includes our military.
I remember the cherry picked Iraq intelligence and get where your question is coming from and I worry that many tried to push the US into a more active war. However, we are in a weak position there.

(12,157 posts)Remember when the Iraqis tossed Kuwati babies out of incubators. Back in the day German soldiers (WW I I think) were tossing Belgic babes in the air and catching them on their bayonets. Bad things happen but it's often hard to decern fact from propaganda intending to stir the pot of war.

(59,503 posts)It is good that the US appears to be coordinating with the UK and France rather than going alone. There were resolutions in the UN on this yesterday, but both the US and Russian resolutions failed. Both had the goal of investigating the chemical weapons use.
Russia is denying it happened, but they have previously been shown to have been wrong and likely lying about other attacks. That included air strikes on an aid convoy to Allepo that Syria had given permission to happen. It is interesting that Russia is claiming nothing happened rather than their more typical claiming it was others who did it -even if air craft was used and they had none.

The only thing I know for certain is that bloviating on Twitter is a horrible strategy. But not a surprising one.

(100,076 posts)I'm normally against war but we need to do to these two what we did to Saddam Hussein. Putin has been wrecking havoc around the world by rigging elections and stirring up hatred, racial tensions, and white supremacy and has not been punished for it. He and Assad both need to be done away with.

(13,033 posts)You understand that they have a massive nuclear arsenal, right? So in addition to murdering Putin, you are likely proposing an additional 100-500 million deaths as collateral damage.
Now lets move on to Assad. Basically you appear to have learned less than nothing from the Iraq War disaster.

(100,076 posts)Do we just let them run amok and continue to cause chaos all over the world? We can't reason with them and we can't deal with them, but something must be done.

(13,033 posts)war in Yemen. How about we deal with our own crimes first.

(100,076 posts)The last time Trump raided Yemen (last year I think) it was a total clusterfuck and he sent our troops into a walking trap - all based off some bad intel. And I feel like the next time that happens it will be the same thing unless we elect smart leaders who know how to act swiftly in war. Trump is definitely not that person.

(82,849 posts)It's not like the U.S. has a lot of credibility on the world stage right now, and most of our allies don't trust Trump to follow through on any promises (almost as if they've been watching what he's been doing for the last 15 months).

(9,670 posts)I doubt we'd have to ask this question.
Right now, the best thing for the USA to do is NOTHING because our leadership is traitorous and any action they take is likely motivated by something other than retaliation for the gas attack.
Until Trump is in prison, anything we do on the world stage will be suspect and likely ineffective.

(5,611 posts)and there is no way this administration is going to have a clear and rational strategy and with Bolton there its even worse. The whole thing seems like a wag the dog phenomenon to me as it is sending some bombs over like we did before seems absurd to me.
