(15,805 posts)Even as a child, I was always an avid reader and took a book with me everywhere I went. My mom would get furious when I brought along a book to read when the family would visit relatives. Nowadays I've traded hardcopy books for a Kindle and it's never out of reach.

(15,805 posts)All of my relatives are stone cold Republicans and not a one of them read. Beyond children's picture books and school textbooks, they don't own a single book, a magazine or newspaper subscription. Nothing.
At most, they look at the sales circulars that come in the mail and clip coupons, or occasionally buy some supermarket tabloid that features their current celebrity idol, or has a recipe they can tear out.

(31,261 posts)I read almost every book in my middle school library. In high school, my favorite place was the library. In college, I spent Saturday and Sunday at the Engineering library when I was not writing code or running experiments. I read mostly technical books now, not as much general literature.
