al gore had a reputation of being an honest, straight-arrow boy scout until republican went on a rampage making up lies and attributing them to al gore,


they pretended al gore was a pathetic liar because he once claimed the book and movie "love story" were partially inspired by him. the author, erich segal, who knew al gore from harvard, eventually confirmed that al gore was correct.

but the media ran the republican's lie and ignored the author's truth, because, hey, there are democratic characters to assassinate.


similarly with the infamous charge that al gore claimed to have "invented" the internet. of course he never claimed to be a techie engineer. how idiotic to even think he would have claimed that. no, al gore simply claimed to have done the most *in congress* to have brought the internet into being.

first, he championed early funding and research for the arpanet and eventually the internet, at a time when few politicians were interested or even aware of it.

second, as vice president he got all government agencies to put massive amounts of government data online, making the internet a hugely valuable resource for everyone. at the time, republicans and the media mocked him for touting the "information superhighway". but it was his effort that made the early internet so incredibly valuable and popular.


well, that and porn. porn proved that people would send their credit card information out online, which was actually a huge concern business early on. but that's another story....



anyway, point is, republicans have long been able to lie and lie in order to tarnish other people's images, and they get away with it so well that they know they can turn someone with the image of honesty or integrity into someone with the image of a partisan liar.

and the media eagerly goes along with it.

These guys are disgusting, but they are ORGANIZED and ready. The Democrats should learn from this.
