http://www.watermarkonline.com/2018/04/12/ronan-farrow-comes-out-as-part-of-the-lgbt-community/Journalist Ronan Farrow came out as part of the LGBTQ community while accepting the Courage Award, an honor given by the Point Foundation, a national scholarship organization for LGBTQ students.
Farrow, who is the son of actress Mia Farrow and director Woody Allen, was honored for his work covering the Harvey Weinstein sexual assault allegations, the #MeToo movement and his reporting on transgender issues.
MSNBCs Thomas Roberts presented the award to Farrow who thanked the LGBTQ community for inspiring his reporting.
Being a part of the LGBT communitywhich recognized that reporting I was doing early on and elevated it, and has been such a stalwart source of support through the sexual assault reporting I did involving survivors who felt equally invisiblethat has been an incredible source of strength for me, Farrow says. LGBT people are some of the bravest and most potent change agents and leaders I have encountered, and the most forceful defenders of the vulnerable and voiceless, because they know what its like to be there.

(9,709 posts)he isn't Frank's son, he looks so much like him. I miss Ronan, I thought he was great.

(2,404 posts)convinced, either. I studied a side-by-side of him and Sinatra, and the resemblance is stunning. But then I dislike Allen; always thought he was a creepy little worm.

(2,404 posts)ears are more like Allen's, but what gets me are the intensity of his eyes, his nose and the shape of his lips. Why is this so fascinating? lol

(22,898 posts)He literally looks like a cross between Farrow and Sinatra-- no way anyone else is the father

Or I wish he would run for office.

(9,353 posts)Always felt he was rather bland and self important.
Wonder why it too him so long to come out? The rumors have been flying for years.
Certainly would not think that his mother would care.

(14,249 posts)While I understand the value of a prominent gay person coming out, it pisses me off that gay people are expected to do so and are looked at askance, as some kind of traitor or not down with the cause. Straight people don't have to go around saying, "Being a straight person ..."
It just seems so unfair and such an additional burden of responsibility we put on gay people.

(9,353 posts)I just have a problem when someone is being coy.
Not sure what Ronans problem might be.

(108,990 posts)With my father it took thirty years, and the first thing he had to do was come out to himself.
It's easier in today's world, but many people in the industry think it's important to maintain a zone of privacy around their personal business. He's only 30 -- younger than most people who come out in public life.

(67,112 posts)you could end up in a mental institution be given endless shock therapy, for just one example. This country has done horrible things to LGBT and countless others. There are so many pockets of outright hatred in the US.

(575 posts)There is no reason to keep hidden who you really are.
In this day and age many have be out and not ashamed: Rachel, Anderson Cooper, Thomas Roberts. ect.
And in no way has it hurt their careers.
My Grandmother's youngest brother was gay. He was an adult in the 30s on and I think of all the years he had to keep who he was under cover, pretend his partner was just his good friend and roommate. I have wondered about how hard things must have been for him, though the two were successful restaurant owners in Chicago.
I wish my uncle could have seen what has become today for the Gay Community as opposed to the way life was in his day.

I don't know why they keep saying Woody Allen is his father? It looks like he did not get one gene from WA.. and he doesn't like him. Bizarre!
If Frank Sinatra were my real father.. I'd like it to be known!
Thanks for the comparison pics, Jackie.
