That's why he did it. Mueller has always played the tune and Trump has danced the jig Mueller wants him to. If you don't see how this whole thing ends you haven't bee paying attention.

Mueller might not have had control over the timing, or indeed even be informed as to what they were up to specifically.

But this was a referral to the SDNY as a determination it was out of scope for the special counsel mandate. Mueller would not have any particular control over the timing of the raid, since the warrant application would have been up to the non-recused assistant AG in that district.

we only know what Mueller wants Trumps team to know. Maybe 20% what Mueller knows is bigly.

Mueller has played this well.

A president simply holds more cards, and this president has a base and congress willing to look away from almost anything. Firing Mueller is not one of the exceptions.
