disrespect or hate the flag.
The thing that gets me is they honestly believe that shit is true.
Then I read trumps tweets.
There isn't a fucking ounce of truth or honesty on the right yet they believe we are the bad guys!
Follow up:
So now they are saying we can disagree without being unpleasant.
And are posting stories of people disrespecting the flag.
I replied that you said liberals (like all liberals) disrespect the flag

(1,202 posts)Republicans tend to think they had a corner on the patriotism market. It's what drives the cult thinking. NRA support, massive debt, massive moral regulations, corrupt administration, coordination with Russians, money laundering, obstruction of justice, using govt position to personally line their pockets, rampant promoted racism, blatant lies to the public, encouraging Russia to hack US citizens emails, demoralizing and attempting to dirty the FBI and CIA for personal gain, using the Justice Department for personal cover ups, none of that seem very American to me.

(22,976 posts)I mean, Im acutely aware of each of their transgressions and outrages (and their getting away with it, for now); but when you string them all together as you did, it really packs a wallop.

(100,076 posts)I had to unload on somebody at a party who turned an innocent discussion on football into an "NFL players disrespect the flag and hate our country" rant. It was totally unnecessary but these people tend to parrot whatever bullshit they hear on Fox every single chance they get, regardless of whether or not it's appropriate for the conversation. Needless to say I got a lot of looks. But fuck, I hate Fox News and how they hijacked this narrative. I will definitely argue until I'm blue in the face how stupid people are who believe this bullshit nonsense.

(27,811 posts)I prefer to have a few succinct talking points lined up. I think liberals honor the flag more than conservatives do, anyway. People who wave it around too much are the ones who don't think about what it stands for. It's a symbol, and if you can't bother to fight for what it symbolizes, then in my opinion, you disrespect it. And I'm not afraid to say it, either.

(100,076 posts)If you claim to know what our founding fathers stood for, but don't know any significance of it, you're not a patriot. If you haven't read the Bill Of Rights past the words "shall not be infringed", you are not a patriot. If you only hear what Fox News tells you then you are not a patriot.
LisaM
(27,811 posts)and have it up there in the dark, well, then, you also don't know flag etiquette! That always floors me. People who lose their marbles over flag burning don't seem to mind it flying all tattered and ripped to shreds on a big pole in their yard.

(32,084 posts)They became popular after 9/11. Also against flag etiquette. And, that's before they let them get tattered to shreds. I saw tons of them lying along the roads, and in ditches in the months after the September 11th attack.

(9,265 posts)But I don't unfriend them, it can be amusing to see how the other side (supposedly) thinks.
I will set them straight if they post a flat-out untruth. Like my old ex-BF, the Tea Party Patriot (dodged a bullet there!) posted something about "liberals started taxing your SS." Let him know that no, that was your very own St. Ronnie. He had no rebuttal to that.

(15,805 posts)but only 1 Constitution. All Americans have a primary duty to uphold the Constitution first and foremost, and all our public official take a solemn oath to defend it, not a flag, just the Constitution.
The flag is only a logo, an identifier, a symbolic icon like Apple's apple or Tritter's blue birds. No one swears to die for a piece of fabric, but Americans have given their lives to preserve our Inalienable Rights and the Rule of Law that the Constitution provides.

Stupid fucking idiots. I told them so, and told them never to talk to me again. No use for people like that, relatives or not.

(53,410 posts)Never get defensive and dont try to engage them on any rational level. Do not explain things, especially about yourself. Thats what I mean when I say dont react defensively.
Just shoot back with a statement thats similar in nastiness and direct as the statement that just made you mad. Examples of things to say:
Liberals hate the Confederate flag, which, in case you didnt know, is not the American flag.
Liberals love the flag and what it stands for, not like the NRA who pretend getting rich selling assault rifles is true patriotism.
Liberals hate Deplorables who are ignorant, cant spell and who need Fox News to tell them what to think.
Liberals hate people who claim theyre Christians but who gladly hate everyone who isnt just like them.
You get the idea

(5,611 posts)It has become a cesspool for many reasons, and I know that none of us miss Facebook AT ALL. It had become a place dominated by the most shallow types who are there just to post vacation pictures and seek attention and occasionally post political rants (also for the purposes of getting attention). The people with whom we want to be in touch well we are in touch. The others, who truthfully arent really people we were that concerned about before joiningFacebook, like people we see once a year or havent seen since college, we see them occasionally or they just fall away as is inevitable and perfectly acceptable in life.
I really dont think it is helpful at all to read rants or to post replies to them. Nobody has ever converted anyone on Facebook its really a waste of your energy, especially if it gives you anxiety and affects you physically.
In fact people I know who still check their pages periodically do everything they can to hide the idiots who post political rants about anything (but especially pro Trump nonsense).

(5,164 posts)About flags is silly. Its an inanimate object. I dont believe in any of that. Id just ignore them if it raises bp to engage. These people have demonstrated many times they dont care about this country at all by their adherence to hate and who they vote for etc
