A serious question: will the Mueller investigation matter...

if the other parts of the system don't do their job? Let's say Mueller determines Trump is guilty of lots of stuff, obstruction of justice, money laundering, whatever really. Then what? Who is responsible for pursuing those charges once the investigation is over? Congress? The justice department? Forgive my ignorance, but I really don't know. And what are the odds that the responsible party will actually do anything with this information?

and protest, march. This just can't go by the wayside like some Mafia crime lord who gets away because they know how to game the system. This is our country and it might take more than protesting and marching.

The assumption is that elections (or the electoral college) will prevent a lunatic getting into office. And even then there are checks and balances, but for some reason (maybe many reasons) all these systems have not worked this time.
Once we elect someone it is very hard to remove them. That is on purpose and one of the things that makes us a stable country (usually).

If Repub congresscritters continue to pretend this is all a dream, we'll have to deal with it in November.
