You can't work with a lot of people and worry about whether or not some hate you. Or love you. It's quite often immaterial and irrelevant.

No, I don't think there's "negative energy" that results from "negative emotions."

He expects everyone to love him no matter how much of an asshole he is. Just the thought of others not liking him burns him up so he retreats to his bubble of make believe land where everyone loves him.
