Paul Ryan's pathetic legacy - by Max Boot

By Max Boot Columnist April 14 at 11:00 AM

For someone reputed to be a deep, long-range thinker, outgoing House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.) showed a surprising lack of foresight in his handling of President Trump.

Imagine what will happen if special counsel Robert S. Mueller III concludes that Trump’s campaign knowingly colluded with Russia to influence the outcome of the 2016 election and that Trump obstructed justice in an attempt to bury the evidence. That outcome is by no means certain, but it is certainly possible — and, when it comes to a finding of obstruction, probable. How will a Democrat-controlled House react? Because that prospect, too, seems increasingly likely with every Republican retirement — including now Ryan’s own.

If Mueller delivers the goods (and maybe even if he doesn’t), a Democrat-dominated House would likely begin impeachment proceedings on, oh say, Jan. 21, 2019 — and it wouldn’t take long to pass the articles of impeachment because in the House the minority can’t block action. The Senate, in all probability, will still lack the 67 votes to remove Trump from office. If the Mueller findings are damning enough, however, at least a few of the more moderate GOP senators will abandon him — as will some percentage of Trump-friendly but not Trump-fanatical voters. Trump might well decide that, rather than prolong the agony, he will call it quits after one term and return to his “truly classy” lair at Trump Tower — so much nicer than the “stupid” White House.

Who would the Republicans nominate to succeed Trump? Vice President Pence is an obvious option, but he might be even more tainted by association with a disgraced ex-president and even weaker politically than Gerald Ford was in 1976. Republicans voters might be ready to reboot with a candidate untainted by Trumpism. The Paul Ryan of two years ago would have seemed an obvious choice. He was young, handsome, thoughtful and earnest, and he stood for a brand of inclusive Republicanism far removed from Trump’s unhinged rants. What better way to turn the page from a candidate who binge-watches Fox News than to choose one who reads budget documents for fun? And so it might have gone, except that Ryan fatally compromised his integrity and reputation by his accommodation with Trump. Ryan figured that he and other congressional Republicans could manipulate an ignorant president into signing off on their agenda while he spent his time on the golf course. How did that work out?

Ryan can and will point to his signal achievement: the big tax-cut bill. But for someone who staked his career on addressing the alarming growth of social-welfare spending — the chief driver of the deficit — this was at best a hollow victory. In 2012, when the federal debt stood at $16 trillion, Ryan said: “We have a debt crisis right in front of us, and what brings down Empires – past and future – is debt.” Today the debt is more than $21 trillion — and climbing.

He would and those like him would try to privatize our entire government. These goons already want to cut public services and outsource the VA... therefore, there is nothing good in their past and certainly nothing good can come to the future through Ryan or any of the Republicans.
They've collectively showed they don't care about people, their health care proposal proved that, and they have shown they care nothing about the laws, and their lack of concern for truths or morality has been on display for two or more decades.

They care about "money" and "enriching the wealthy", in their step by step march to create a Plutocratic system, with a monarchical structure controlled by the wealthy and their Corporate Interest.

It's no different than the history of the Slaver System, who cared nothing about anything except gaining wealth by the forced labor of others doing the the work, and by establishing a system of systemic indenturing of the masses.

Sadly a great mass of white society, continues with their "I can't believe it attitudes", and they get hung up on fads and material pursuits wrapped in various status claims and games... until.. much is pushed off with a slap stick comment or sarcasm to arouse a laugh and they are on about their daily spins. Many in minority society still feel they have no voice and thus go about their days trying to find measure within the economics of society, and often times finding distractions that remove the frustrating awareness of the challenges still confronting them and their communities.

Republican have dominated the media Narrative for 2 or more decades...and our media programs that push themselves off as News, is now nothing more than an "marketers and advertisers showcasing program". They will spin anything, and when it slows down, they spin it in the opposite direction... always seeking to push "drama".... BECAUSE... we have a society of "Drama Addicts"....

The values of Civics Education has long been gone in this nation, and people's attention span cannot digest more than 140 characters and a lust for brevity, because they don't have the mental temperament for details and facts.
Allow people to wrap themselves in a continuing car payment and a line of credit... and people are as content as they can be. give them a few material things and a frequent visit to a marquee place, with some designer label on ... and they could care less about what goes on in the true Civics of Society. They only care when "challenge crosses their doors step and enter their home"... other than that... Many have no time for much of anything, .... as we see today the incessant consumption with social media, rubbing their fingers across their cell phone screen, sending text and playing video games. They only panic, when their bought and paid for "get a job certificate" will not get them a payday or claim of status. THEN, they want to claim to be of public and societal concerns.

What we have now...IS THE YOUNG PEOPLE who are coming of age, they see the madness, they see the despair and desperation's that has engulfed people, and they are concerned about "meanings".... which leads them to seek out information and go back and "re-learn the truths of American History" They question the malice of 100's of years of contorted laws and policies that sprang up though the long history of slavery and the 100 yrs of segregation, and they will 'revisit the laws" and they will rewrite them to embrace "Multi-Cultural Truths".... The facts that present the truths that America was truly built by Multicultural Ethnic Groups... many having done so under great duress and cycles of being suppressed and repressed, when it came to economic benefits, and open policy ability to have free and full access to all things within this American Nation.

People like Ryan and the Republican System and their Brand of Mentality, continues to decline and die away, as the future has no place for the continuance of historical bias, bigotry, racism, class-ism based on greed chasing, and all the malice and moral decay that has existed for 100's of years across this nation. The young will re-learn the meaning of the Declaration of Independence and the true value of the Constitution, and they will re-address the legal system in this nation that supported the malice and vile of greed and money madness which brought out the savagery in society, and expose how society accepted that savagery and took it to claim themselves superior. When fact is, they were only superior in being of savagery.

THE YOUNG PEOPLE who are coming of age, they see the madness... and they will be less likely to support it existing with such vile in the coming future. They have "technology", that has the capability to monitor and report. All things, and for certainly.. the "Circulation of Money".... Technology will expose all greed and corruption, because "The Circulation of Money Leaves A Footprint".

Ryan and the likes are with the mindset of an Era that is not going to return in America. The Young will be the force that Helps America Lead and this time America will Lead with Integrity, Honor and Respect of All Humanity.
