What it all comes down to, Republicans

For over a year now, you have made excuses for your “pResident” – a man who has lied to the American people every single day since he was elected. Ergo, you are in no position to label anyone who speaks up against Trump or your party as “a liar”.

You have supported a “pResident” who is under investigation for obstructing justice – at the least – and perhaps for other crimes against our democracy. Therefore, you are in no position to assassinate the characters of people who have served their country tirelessly and courageously for decades.

You defended your “pResident” when he mocked the disabled, called Mexicans drug-dealing rapists, talked about grabbing women by their genatalia, and referred to Nazis and white supremacists as “very fine people”. Obviously, it follows that you are in no position to even question the moral rectitude of people like Robert Mueller, or those who work for the FBI, no less attempt to attack it.

You have sat in cowardly silence as your “pResident” uses his office to enrich himself personally, along with his family and friends. You yourselves passed a “tax reform” bill that benefited your wealthy donors at the expense of middle-class Americans, who – along with their children and grandchildren – will be paying down the unprecedented debt you have bequeathed to them. Again, it means that you are in no position to question whether anyone who writes a book, gives interviews to the media, or makes paid speeches about the disaster that is Trump is doing so for monetary gain.

You unwavering supported your “pResident” when he tweeted covfefe in the middle of the night, when he used his position to launch personal attacks on individuals and companies, when he insulted our allies, when he demonstrated his absolute ignorance of the workings of our government and our role in international affairs. Sorry for repeating myself, but this means that you are in no position to criticize comments made by anyone about your “pResident’s” ignorance, stupidity, or total lack of interest in anyone other than himself – which has been glaringly apparent from day one.

I did not watch the James Comey interview that aired tonight. I might not watch any future interviews. I know I won’t be buying his book.

But what it all comes down to, my GOP friends, is that when it comes to whose account of the facts I choose to believe, it’s going to be the man who dedicated his life to service to his country, and not the guy who handed classified information to our enemies. It’s going to be the man who chose a career protecting his country, and not the guy who chose a career based on how many people he could cheat and steal from. It’s going to be the man who, despite opinions and actions I may strongly disagree with, has never acted out of personal or political interest, but has always put country before all else. That’s something that can never be said of your “pResident” – who, I might remind you, is still under investigation, regardless of how much shit you try to throw at his detractors.

When your only defence is offence directed at anyone and everyone who points out the obvious – i.e, your “pResident” is a lying, self-serving, mentally unstable, incompetent fucking moron – it becomes apparent that trying to defend the indefensible is no longer even an option.
