April 15, 2018
We are now in the midst of an epic clash between Donald Trump and fired F.B.I. Director James Comey, neither of whom I hold in high esteem, both men with raging egos and questionable motives.
The depth of my contempt differs between the two, but there is contempt for both.
Comey is now making the rounds promoting his new book, which will no doubt be a monster best seller. Good for him. But Comey for me is a complicated character, a man of honorable service and flashes of horrendous judgment. His inexplicable handling of the investigations into Clintons emails is unforgivable.
He made reckless and harmful disclosures and proclamations about the Clinton investigation while not whispering a word about the concurrent investigation into the Trump campaign.
He says that the letter he released about a new phase of the Clinton email investigation just days before the election may have been colored by polling suggesting that Clinton was going to win, but that too is problematic.
As Nate Silver tweeted Friday: If Comeys decision to release the letter on Oct. 28 was influenced by his interpretation of the polls, that really ought to cut against his image as an honorable, principled decision-maker. Instead, he was just being expedient and trying to save his own hide.

(11,746 posts)When it comes to Comey's word against the word of #fakepresident there is no question. #fakepresident lies multiple times every day and is pathological.

Well, mature judgment tells you, you don't always blab everything that comes to mind without filtering.
Also, this doesn't explain why he withheld the info on trump being investigated, while disclosing about hill right before the election.
OTOH, if NYC FBI was trumpland (Giulianai) as described, he may have had forces to deal with on that account. Is this addressed in his book?

(16,180 posts)Im in the peanut gallery and I know it. From the peanut gallery it is perfectly obvious that trump has always been about enriching himself and stomping on anyone necessary to do it. We are all are able to see Trump even from the cheap seats, because his history and his life speak for itself.
From this peanut gallery, though, it is not easy or appropriate to judge Jim Comey or to judge what was in his head on one or two decisions that occurred over his lifetime of decisions. Was his judgment less than perfect? Well whoop de do. Hes human. Was it irritating at the time? Sure, but it was a pittance compared to the long drawn-out Trumpathon playing on all networks of the enrichment of Facebook for spreading falsehoods many of which were created by Russians. Including by MSNBC, the very network spreading knowledge about the numerous tragedies of the trump presidency today.

(575 posts)I regard Comey as a decent but, flawed man who made terrible mistakes and miscalculations. He angered me but, I don't hate him. I just think he messed up badly.
But, Trump is another thing altogether. Corrupt, selfish, greedy, hateful, self obsessed, ect.
There is nothing to like about this person. He is simply vile
