pretty much in that order. I doubt anything he says will have an effect on Mueller's investigation or public opinion. I heard him say he thinks Chump is "above average in intelligence," , and he does NOT favor impeachment, even if the turd is "morally unfit" to serve as president. I still don't believe the guy is our friend.

(21,849 posts)Comey probably wants to clear his name too.
The more I see and hear of him, the more I realize that he is indeed sanctimonious and not very imaginative. He is not a big picture thinker, not a strategizer.

(21,849 posts)He knew Mueller would be straight as an arrow and that most likely was the criterion he used. I really don't think he had any grand strategy.
Mueller, on the other hand, is definitely a strategizer.
Kirk Lover
(3,608 posts)EXACTLY what he was doing by leaking his notes...that act got Mueller appointed by Rosenstein.
By default you have to be a good strategizer if you are a successful prosecutor or attorney for that matter.
By the same token not every strategy is fruitful or wise.
Bottom line...I believe Comey was fucked no matter what he did but he should still of defaulted to the protocol and could of always used that as an "excuse". His integrity got in the way and he way over thought this...I think this is an instance where he was trying to have too much integrity and he himself went sideways and pissed everybody off on both sides off. But me...I ain't mad at him, I forgive James Comey and I'm moving on to more NEFARIOUS issues.

(26,266 posts)That being said, I wanted to throw something at the TV, during his rationalizations.
And how about that bit where he said impeachment wasn't the way to go because the public made the mistake of electing him, so they need to remedy that mistake by voting him out. At least that was my interpretation of that particular statement.

(155 posts)My interpretation was that Comey thought impeaching Trump and possibly removing him from office would be done on legal grounds, but if the electorate voted him out by a large margin that would be a moral victory- showing that the American public overwhelmingly rejected him and his policies.
Americans will need to "make America great again" after this Trump fiasco is over!

(8,445 posts)As long as he's a thorn in 45's side, it's fine with me if he makes money and gets even with "Chumpy" ( )
Editing to add: I absolutely don't agree with the "above average intelligence" thing. NONE of the trumps fit that description. NONE.
Kirk Lover
(3,608 posts)obviously I don't need to elaborate why.
I don't think RUMP is dumb but he's ignorant as hell on many fronts and has no desire to change that.

(2,078 posts)doing was illegal. He damn well knew. Comey then went into the consciousness of guilt actions

(2,078 posts)Does it not occur to you that the context in which he said this bears on its purpose?
That isn't the entire quote either and is missing the premise, qualifiers, and context that informs the meaning.
He may be all or none of what you say, but if you are going to criticize, be earnest.
This was said to counter the notion that Agent Orange is too stupid to know what he was doing (obstructing justice, blackmail, etc)

(15,805 posts)Of course he's going to put his own self interests first and feather his nest after the way Trump axed him. No, Comey is no friend to Democrats, but he is a useful tool for Dems to exploit as long as he's telling tales to make Trump look bad. Never forget, Comey is a Republican and he would not want to impeach Trump because he knows it would be a disaster for the GOP that would damaged their brand for years. I don't think that he cares about saving Trump's ass, he just wants the Republican Party to survive his presidency.
Kirk Lover
(3,608 posts)way they are going after him. I believe him when he gave his reason why he didn't think impeachment was the way to go. I get why he's saying it. Getting voted out soundly by the people is decisive...however, I disagree with him on that too because....
1) Impeachment of RUMP just sounds fun!
2) Then we can indict and he can pardon no one.
3) Please see number 1

(54,403 posts)Trump probably has "street smarts." Knows little, but can outsmart adversaries, and senses what to preach to his choir.
Impeachment will NOT result in conviction and removal from office. There are not 67 Senators who would vote for that, so it would be a gesture to distract and embarrass Trump, but unlike Clinton, Trump would brag and crow about his Senate acquittal as if he had been elevated to the Papacy. That Trump is morally unfit to serve as president is obvious even to half the people who support him. Indeed, that is WHY they are glad he is president. They don't want Jimmy Carter. They want Al Capone.

(36,926 posts)I wish he, like you, had said an impeachment conviction wasn't feasible. Instead, he sounded like a Repuke trying to keep his party intact.

(54,403 posts)At this point, I think he's looking out for himself, and has given up all thought of loyalty to anyone.

(6,855 posts)He favors VOTING HIM OUT in order to restore our honor. I believe he cares about the justice system. His reference to how things used to be run under Hoover and how bad things were under Hoover, makes me trust his historical perspective. He knows that if Trump is impeached or indicted, the RW will always say that the system is rigged. If he is VOTED OUT, the people have spoken.
We can disagree on the method of removal, but there is NO DOUBT this guy favors removal. I think he is secretly happy Mueller has the job since he trusts Mueller implicitly. So do I.

The hand-wringing and pearl-clutching exhibited by some here is simply NOT helpful, and plays right into the Mango Moron's hand.
