Just cause she is old and dying does NOT negate how she lived. And what she inflicted on this country.

That was the same thing that caused the media to swoon over Henry Hyde on the impeachment committee: They called him an elder statesman type, when anyone who had been paying attention knew he was the worst kind of partisan hack.

Former first lady Barbara Bush donated an undisclosed amount of money to the Bush-Clinton Katrina Fund with specific instructions that the money be spent with an educational software company owned by her son Neil.
Since then, the Ignite Learning program has been given to eight area schools that took in substantial numbers of Hurricane Katrina evacuees.
"Mrs. Bush wanted to do something specifically for education and specifically for the thousands of students flooding into the Houston schools," said Jean Becker, former President Bush's chief of staff. "She knew that HISD was using this software program, and she's very excited about this program, so she wanted to make it possible for them to expand the use of this program."

(15,805 posts)Barbara Bush was a mean, nasty, vicious snake, did everyone just disremember the evil things she said?
She was the embodiment of a cruel and uncaring Marie Antoinette when she toured the Houston Astrodome to look down her nose at the hundreds of poor people who had been evacuated from the Gulf Coast states following Hurricane Katrina.
Barbara Bush transcript:
"Almost everyone I've talked to said we're going to move to Houston. What I'm hearing, which is sort of scary, is they all want to stay in Texas. (Said with concern.) Everybody is so overwhelmed by all the hospitality. And so many of the peoples in the arena here, you know, they're underprivileged anyway, so this--this (she chuckles slightly) is working very well for them."
Barbara Bush commenting on her son, President George W. Bush's decision to block the media from showing flag-draped coffins of U. S. soldiers killed in Iraq:
"Why should we hear about body bags and death? I mean, it's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"
This woman was a terrible human being and I can't say that her approaching demise has changed her lifetime of cold-blooded, dispassionate heartlessness.
Blue_true
(31,261 posts)But, she will soon get her life scorecard. I am not a Christian, but I do believe our conduct toward other beings is watched and scored, if I may use such a term. That is why I believe all rightwing evangelicals are going to get their reward the moment they die, and they won't be pleased.

(15,805 posts)She would have withered away into obscurity if she had been excoriated and denounced with even half the censure and condemnation that HRC received, but in death she's going to get a makeover and be extolled as the latest Republican saint.

(3,836 posts)the history of Barbara Bush. I use the term "white-washing" with pun intended. Many folks are being so very careful not to mention her racist & elitist comments about the poor who were crowded into the Astrodome after Katrina. Barbara Bush is dying, so why bring up the past?
Why not bring up the past? It is as much a part of her legacy as any kindness she has done.
We can already see 'selective memory' at work in the retelling of the history of our country in regards to the wholesale slaughter & slavery of Native Americans, and African Americans. And if we continue to look the other way we are in danger of allowing this assault on truth to stand.
I don't care if they are Democrats or Republicans or who they were in history. I am sick to death of racist Neo-Cons escaping the consequences of their words or actions just because they may be leaving this Earth.
