https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_G._StavridisThis guy looks like the real deal. His last duty station was in the same role as Wesley Clark - SACEUR. Please read the Wiki page.
Every time I hear him talk on TV I find myself agreeing with him. I get a strong sense of a man who knows what he's doing and why. Who knows what strength and power are and is reluctant to use them.
He was considered as HRC's VEEP candidate. He's still a young man - early 60s.
I'd like to hear others' thoughts on him.

For some reason, the most vocal on DU hate the idea of a former military politician.

My view is more nuanced. If the person is socially progressive and satisfy all the policy issues that are important to me, my only concern beyond that is they have a solid history of ethics. I think the military is over funded and that veterans don't get medical care many need, but that won't cause me to turn away from a former military politician if the person has sound, practical views on military expenditures and taking care of sick and/or homeless vets.
I can tolerate and defend a Stormy Daniels because she is going after weasels, if only for her own benefit, but I would never vote for a Stormy Daniels.
