Trump Org Sues Cities Across America For Lower Taxes

President Trump has made no secret about his personal wealth. He has repeatedly claimed his net worth to be upwards of $10 billion, and campaign filings from the 2016 race list list property values that buttress those numbers. Yet in towns and municipalities across the country, the president's various companies are arguing the opposite.

The goal of these lawsuits is to lower the amount of money President Trump's businesses owe in property taxes, by claiming that local tax assessors are valuing these properties too high. While real estate companies often challenge these numbers in court, this is unusual because state assessors have used values much lower than those on the president's campaign documents.

Ilya Marritz, WNYC reporter and a host of the Trump Inc. podcast, explores the continuing ethical concerns of a sitting president who has refused to divest from his business interests.
