Missouri lawmakers threatened with donor exodus unless they back governor accused of sexual assault

State lawmakers in Missouri claim they’ve been threatened with a sharp decrease in donations unless they actively support embattled Gov. Eric Greitens (R), who has been charged with photographing a woman while she was naked and using the image to threaten her with blackmail.

Greitens has also been accused of assaulting the woman and coercing her into a sexual relationship. He was indicted on felony invasion of privacy charges related to the nude photo back in February.

“Lots of people, including me, have been threatened that, if we go against the governor, we will never get financial support from any of the major donors in [Missouri],” one unnamed legislator reportedly told local Missouri Scout, a private news service covering state politics. When Missouri Scout asked other lawmakers to weigh in on the claim, many told the news outlet the threats were allegedly “widespread.”

The legislator’s comment was tweeted out by public relations expert and former American Conservative Union (ACU) executive Gregg Keller on Monday morning.

will have the guts to stand up to the extortion? I'm guessing..........not that many, if any.

Yet another example of why money has to be removed from the election process. Only the wealthy have any real access to our government, and that HAS TO STOP!

Democrats are of course also affected by the corruption of money in politics, which we have to get rid of, but it's critical to realize it is to a far, far lesser degree.

After all, both Democratic politicians and liberal donors believe in the importance of using government at all levels to advance wellbeing. It's a basic identity thing.

Today's Republicans do not, and that is the huge difference that has lead to their intense corruption.

Find out who was sending the signals, and lock them up.

It is a crime.

Lose out in an impeachment process and even then may not do so. This is a Trump wannabe with eyes on the White House.

A very large Greitens donor has very publicly pulled out, but no one knows who's donating or how much to the nonprofit Greitens set up called A New Missouri, or what he might be doing in return, which had ethics watchdogs' hair raised from its inception.

This will hopefully help McCaskill, who could lose her MO senate seat. Her repub opponent, MO's AG Hawley is now calling for the governor to resign, but he's apparently already controversially cleared Greitens in two other separate investigations into prior improper behavior and may be harmed by this anyway. Hope, hope.

What Paragons of Virtue.

Since its clear the only real crime to the rich in america is being Not Rich, maybe they require a lesson in State Power and Morality
Let's tax the hell out of them until the Debt is paid off (like 75%).
And while we're at at, maybe we should make random IRS audits legally mandatory for anyone with a personal income above a set amount (say, a million dollars a year).

I'd love to know what Charles and David and their ilk ACTUALLY spend their money on, wouldn't you?

just did it as a job. The pay is not that bad really. Plus there are lifetime benefits after you retire. It can't be any harder than the crappy jobs i have done for much less money.

Money has no place in politics. The government will always be corrupt as long as this is happening.
