Democrats who have pushed for Rep. Nancy Pelosis ouster as House minority leader are standing down at least until after Novembers midterm elections.
Republican Speaker Paul D. Ryans surprise announcement last week that he would retire at the end of his term boosted Democrats hopes that they could wrest back control of the House this fall. The possibility of majority control also gave new life to a looming question: Will Pelosi, or someone else, lead the party?
Democrats say they are focused on one task winning and have clamped down on talk of replacing Pelosi (D-Calif.), who has guided the party for 17 years, served as speaker from 2007 to 2011 and is intent on reclaiming the gavel.
We have one North Star: 218 seats. Period, said Rep. Denny Heck (D-Wash.), the chairman of recruitment at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

(30,481 posts)I will be correct.
I don't think she wanted to run last time. She doesn't quit when things are tough.
Pelosi will not be speaker again. She is going to go out to huge cheers.

(58,670 posts)Fuck the Repubs. They don't get to decide who leads our Party. Nor do Independent voters for that matter.
After the election, if somebody can beat Pelosi in a fair election among House members, then alright. But keep the horse in front of the cart. Election first, then worry about the Speaker chair.

(6,288 posts)There's a really good reason for that too.
She is right where she should be until Democrats regain power & committee heads belong to the Democrats.
Only then should a changing of the guard occur in that powerful position she has maneuvered so well through, the maze of deception put upon her by the RW at a time when her hands were tied by this Republican owned Kremlin coup of our US Govt.
She knows her position so well & I thankfully applaud her many years of standing up for the people of this country even when they handicapped her by lazily ignoring & failing to simply vote in midterms, thus giving her the power she needed.
Stop letting Republicans win.
Its simple.

I truly like her and really appreciate what she has done.
And she probably remains the best qualified leader of the House.
But it's time to turn the page and give the party a fresh look to help win seats in 2018

(6,288 posts)Pelosi isn't the problem
Its lazy voters who expect leaders to performm miracles without voting for the assist those leaders need.
That meme of wanting Fresh faces, helped get us Trump.
We need to vote out the rot of Republicans before any 'fresh face' can be effective.
First win back Dem power, then change the old guard.
That "fresh face" won't do squat without the power of majority.
Ask Pelosi how well that works when lazy voters fail to assist in midterms.
STOP LETTING REPUBS WIN ELECTIONS
That's the only focus there should be at this time.inside squabbles can come after power has been regained.

Give the people what they want: change.
If they do that, the Dems will clean up.
Again, I think Nancy is wonderful. But the GOP will hammer the 9 bad things they will pin on her vs the 999 great things she has done. A new person gets a cleaner slate.

They're going to do a hit job - just like they did to Hillary.
GOP Unleashes Anti-Pelosi Ad Blitz in Fight to Control Congress

(Bloomberg) -- If theres one person Republican congressional candidates can rally around for their November election campaigns, its House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi.
Much as animosity toward President Donald Trump rouses Democrats, Pelosi is a bete noire for Republicans, whove long targeted her as the prototype of a San Francisco liberal. But this year, the GOP is turning it up a notch.
Nancy Pelosi will be front and center in every competitive race in 2018, promised Jesse Hunt, a spokesman for the National Republican Congressional Committee.
Pelosi, 78, who hopes to find a way back into the speakers chair if Democrats can gain the 23 seats needed to take control of the House, has been pictured or mentioned more than three times as often in broadcast television campaign spots for federal office when compared to the same point in the last midterm campaign four years ago. Thats roughly 7,000 TV ads so far this year, according to data from Kantar Medias CMAG, which tracks political advertising.
let's go back to 2010:
Anti-Pelosi ads break records
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2010/11/08/anti-pelosi-ads-break-records/
Washington (CNN) - More money was spent and more commercials were run against House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in this midterm election cycle than against any other congressional leader since Newt Gingrich.
Definition of insanity: keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result.
Nancy is wonderful. But let's get rid of those headwinds.
The GOP did so with Boehner & now Ryan.
Give people what they want in Washington: change

(30,481 posts)At a time when we are winning damn hear every news cycle it would make no sense for her to step down.
Not run for the position again? Yes. Step down? Heck no. Her stepping down wouldn't stop one commercial using her name in a negative manner.

(5,210 posts)I assume you think that because the Republicans demonize her to such a great extent. That has a far greater effect on REPUBLICAN voters than Democratic voters.
Why would Democrats appreciate throwing one of our own under the bus - esp. when she's been so effective AND we need to clean up such a mess once back in power?
Why would Democrats appreciate catering to the misogynists and ageists among us?
Why would Democrats appreciate the party caving to GOP ideas about who should lead the party in the House?
Most Democrats know that if we replace Pelosi, they'll find just as much if not more wrong with her replacement.
