Rep. Charlie Dent

After discussions with my family & careful reflection, I have decided to leave Congress in the coming weeks. Serving the people of #PA15 has been a tremendous responsibility & the privilege of a lifetime.

GOP-types announcing they're not running for re-election then, boom, they resign before their term is up. Curious.

The Republicans who announced they will run for the nomination so far are Dauphin County Commissioner Mike Pries, state Rep. Ryan Mackenzie of Lower Macungie Township, Lehigh County Commissioner Marty Nothstein and Scott Uehlinger, a former CIA officer.

The Democratic field so far includes Bill Leiner of Coplay; Allentown pastor Greg Edwards; Allentown solicitor Susan Ellis Wild; Laura Quick, a UPS package car driver from Lebanon County; and David Weidman, a combat veteran from Emmaus who served in the Air Force and Army. Others have said they are considering a run.

which the May primary would cover. The old "PA-15" would only be relevant for a special election to fill out the remainder of the term under the old boundaries.

How does this affect Lamb? - does he need to campaign again???

Here is the relevant section in the state law -

(b) Special Elections

<...>

(626 amended Aug. 13, 1963, P.L.707, No.379)
Section 627. Special Elections for Representative in Congress.--Whenever a vacancy shall occur or exist in the office of Representative in Congress from this State during a session of Congress, or whenever such vacancy shall occur or exist at a time when the members of Congress shall be required to meet at any time previous to the next general election, the Governor shall issue, within ten days after the happening of said vacancy, or after the calling of an extraordinary session of Congress during the existence of said vacancy, a writ of election to the proper county board or boards of election and to the Secretary of the Commonwealth, for a special election to fill said vacancy, which election shall be held on a date named in said writ, which shall not be less than sixty (60) days after the issuance of said writ. In all other cases no such special election to fill said vacancy shall be held. The Governor may fix, in such writ of election, the date of the next ensuing primary or municipal election as the date for holding any such special election.

Lamb has already filed to run in the primary for a new reconfigured district but will still represent the old district until January (he was already sworn in for the old seat). I think he will be fine to win the new district.
