The undercurrent in the GOP must smell like flop sweat, Mad Dog 20/20 and stale cigarettes

I know some in the media are pushing the 'The GOP is closing the gap for the mid-terms', but it's not the Democrats who are racing for any near by exit.

Mogen David 20/20

The best thing about Mad Dog?, try it once and you'll never ever forget.

It was 42 years ago, not long enough.

Most of us were working in radio while going to college, and virtually all of us had worked at the campus station, so we also invited others who worked there.

We were still college students, so it was a BYOB. It was Christmas, so I got a bottle of decent scotch, and noticed that the level of the bottle was significantly lower than it should have been based on the number of drinks I'd had at that point.

Soon thereafter, I noticed some guy (who I didn't know) pouring a drink from my bottle. I asked him about it, and he said his girl liked scotch. I suggested that maybe he should have brought some, and he told me I could have a drink from his bottle -- Mad Dog 20/20. He was drinking my 12 year old scotch twice as fast as I was, but it was OK because I could have some of his swill that had been strained through old sweat socks last Tuesday.

And woke up in the bed of my truck in my driveway covered with morning dew.

And grape mad dog.

I then got on a flight from Washington State to New Jersey encountering turbulence nearly all the way it seemed.

A day I will never forget.

I haven't had a drop in over 21 years but that one day still stands out.

From 1976 by the way, must have been a banner year for mad dog.

I wouldn't know. I NEVER drank that crap. I'll cop to Boone's Farm and Annie Green Springs, both of which wielded a mean case of pop skull, but I drew the line at Mad Dog.

Never to be repeated, another was southern comfort and root beer.

Not recommended.

These days I have kids approach me to buy them liquor, I just laugh and tell them "if you only knew".

And no.

i quit drinking in 1997 but I never had a Zima, always kinda wondered what it tasted like.

Everybody I've asked can't really describe its flavor either.

Dodged that bullet.

In our downstairs fridge there are a couple of bottles left over from a party where someone brought them. They are probably 5 years old. If they were indescribable then, I don't even want to think about how they would taste, now.

Maybe I should, and dump them.

In other words, like a tanker's barracks room.

I never smoked, but I'm sorry to say a lot of my fellow tankers did. And a disappointingly large number were right-wingers...
