It's your gaudy property and you continue to violate the Emoluments Clause with your vulgar attempt to advertise it. Go Cheney yourself.

(11,804 posts)Maybe i'd better go play a few rounds of golf; take out the presidential suite. I'm sure Trump will look at my request more favorably then.
Or, i'm guessing, that's what petitioners are supposed to think.

(10,419 posts)True to form, Spanky announced the Korean War was still going on as if we were as stupid as he is. You can always tell when he just learned something and projects an air of superiority over the unwashed masses.
I hate him.
he does not seem to have a clue about how ignorant he is. I wish the news would quit showing his face.

Donald Trump learned about the estate after unsuccessfully trying to purchase and combine two apartments in Palm Beach for his family. According to Trump, he offered the Post family $25 million for it, but they rejected it. Trump purchased the land between Mar-a-Lago and the ocean from Jack C. Massey, the former owner of KFC, for $2 million,[21] stating he intended to build a home that would block Mar-a-Lago's beach view. The threat caused interest in the property to decline, and Trump ended up getting the property for $7 million in 1985.[22][19] Trump then renovated the estate, adding a 20,000-square-foot (1,900 m2) ballroom.[20] The club also has five clay tennis courts and a waterfront pool.

(51,611 posts)It reminds me of Hearst Castle and the buildings in San Diego's Balboa Park built around the same time period. Mar a Lago was built in the 20s by the cereal heiress Marjorie Post.
"Mar-a-Lago is a resort and National Historic Landmark in Palm Beach, Florida, built from 1924 to 1927 by cereal-company heiress and socialite Marjorie Merriweather Post. The 126-room, 62,500-square-foot. The house contains the Mar-a-Lago Club, a members-only club with guest rooms, a spa, and other hotel-style amenities. It is located on the Palm Beach barrier island. Designed by Marion Sims Wyeth and Joseph Urban, Mar-a-Lago was willed in 1973 to the United States federal government as a retreat for presidents and visiting foreign dignitaries. The mansion was not, however, used for this purpose, prior to being declared a National Historic Landmark in 1980."

(11,589 posts)I am not sure it's mocked for its architecture, but rather who owns it. I think what MArjorie Post fif was wonderful in willing it to the NPS.
Since it's on the national register, I think I am grateful that it can't be totally trumpified.
I understand that the Carter Administration could not justify the cost and that was why it was put on the market for public sale.

and there is this, from Wiki:
He used dirty tricks to lowball the price.
It's not the property, it's the owner.
