A blue wave is forming in Pennsylvania

1. With about 7 months remaining before the 2018 elections Democratic candidates are in strong positions across an array of races within Pennsylvania.

2. Incumbent Governor Tom Wolf (D) has solid leads over an array of potential Republican nominees in his bid to win a second term as the Commonwealth’s chief executive.

3. In the United States Senate race in Pennsylvania Democrat incumbent Bob Casey Jr. holds substantial leads against two potential Republican challengers: Congressman Lou Barletta and State Representative Jim Christiana.

4. In a generic ballot in the midterm congressional elections in Pennsylvania the state’s voters are leaning towards Democrats over Republican candidates with 47% of voters preferring the Democrat in their district compared with 38% supporting a Republican.

5. A majority (55%) of Pennsylvania voters disapprove of President Donald Trump’s job performance with just under 4 in 10 (39%) supporting Trump’s performance as the nation’s chief executive.

6. In regard to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 Election, 7 out of 10 voters in the Keystone State believe Mueller should be able to finish the investigation.

According to another thread posted today here at DU. And he's supposed to be a moderate. You'd think he still had a chance.

The primary election is just one month away -- and Republicans backed by special interests are spending millions on attack ads against me.

I’m the only Democratic governor running in a state that voted for Donald Trump. So Republicans think they can beat me in Pennsylvania.
Let’s prove them wrong. Can you pitch in $5, $10 or whatever you can to help our Democratic campaign?

Since taking office, I've been fighting to improve the lives of Pennsylvania families by creating good-paying jobs, protecting seniors, investing in education, and ensuring access to affordable healthcare.

Let me be absolutely clear: I will do everything I can to protect our progress and stand up to President Donald Trump and his Republican allies in Harrisburg.

They’re fighting to roll back all the progress we’ve made. But I’m fighting with everything I’ve got, every single day, against Republicans and their reckless agenda.

There’s so much at stake this election year. But I know with thousands of grassroots supporters like you fighting alongside me, we can take on the Republicans, win this race, and continue the progress we’ve started.

So what do you say Alexander? Can you chip in just $5 right now?

given Wolf is a fairly wealthy business owner and actually funded his entire campaign the last time and currently takes no salary either (nor does he live in the Governor's mansion for that reason). He literally flooded the airwaves with his ads the first time and that really helped people over here in the eastern part of the state, to get to know him.

But I suppose he could use some money to push the other crap ads off the TV. I don't normally have the TV on except if there is something critical happening but just today, while getting my car inspected and serviced, the waiting area had 2 TVs on and all I could do was the ads.

knocking the stuffing out of each other in the GOP primary. Mango has really tagged Wagner with a bunch of nasty negative ads. Meanwhile, Wolf has been running spots highlighting how he's worked to correct the priorities of the GOP's previous budgets. My sense is people are satisfied with Wolf and don't have any real reason to unseat him in Nov.

The Mango & Wagner crap that I saw today on the dealership TV was mind-numbing (and I had my iPad trying to post here on DU with that blaring in the background).

I think one (from either them or someone else running for something) was a whole vomitous run-on sentence of "Obamacare is bad" "I opposed Obamacare" pile of crap.

All I can hope for is that we really do make sure that Wolf gets back in so that we have someone there to temper whatever is going to happen with the 2020 census. That is how we got screwed before by ending up with Corbett in there during the 2010 census. Fortunately he became a 1-term governor.

Perhaps they are now learning how he operates, although I expect they will insist on "giving him more time".

Over here in the east, the GOP who voted for him know him more for his business attempts (that failed but that doesn't count ) and the 3 Atlantic City casinos he had. Plus of course, he was "Not-Hillary" or "Not-Obama" so that was a "plus" for them.

and had originally been a Democrat many years ago until he ran for D.A. here in Philly in the '60s and won because he became a Republican running against "the machine" (and then eventually became a Senator).

But when he became a Democrat again during the summer of 2009 (and when Al Franken was finally seated after his grueling fight with Norm Coleman around that time too), that helped the party reach the 60 votes needed to get stuff through (notably part 1 of the ACA) without a filibuster.

The point is PA has sent GOP to the Senate and to the Governor's mansion before. I don't think they are 'red'. It has always been Philly, Pittsburgh and Alabama in between. Also,, I am convinced that the close election in PA was fraud.

Democrat/ Republican/ then back to Democrat during his last years. The middle, Republican years, were, by far, the longest period, so we generally think of him as Republican.

20. Fox and Limbaugh pushed it redder. GOP propaganda works
Tue Apr 17, 2018, 08:09 PM
Apr 2018

Obama and Hillary both lost ground in NE and SW PA. Those areas were the GENESIS of the American labor movement - the Molly Macguires fought against wealthy corporate coal and steel interests there. For decades they were blue. Then in the 80s and 90s came GOP radio and in 1997 Fox.

There’s an article on DailyKos saying NEPA shift from blue to red is the biggest reason Hillary lost PA. I promise that most of that shift is the result of GOP propaganda.

(That said, it took propaganda, voter ID, gerrymandering, voter suppression at the polls, and tons of GOP oligarch money to barely win in PA. Multiple factors contributed. But the propaganda influence is often underrated.)

Republicans will not fare well. That means Republicans in Wisconsin, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida, and even in states that always go Republican, can expect good other turnouts for Democrats. Alabama and Pennsylvania were bellwethers for the upcoming 2018 mid terms. The seats Democrats turned Blue in the states also come into play.

8. PA has always had a majority Democratic registration advantage
Tue Apr 17, 2018, 06:43 PM
Apr 2018

(currently by ~800,000 but at one point ~2008, by 1,000,000). Problem is, the gerrymandering, voter roll purges, and eventually-tossed Voter ID law, made the state into a faux "red" state.

For the 18 congressional districts here, gerrymandering produced 13 GOP and 5 Democratic seats. Based on registration, it should have been 10 Democratic seats and 8 GOP seats, or at least 9 Democratic seats and 9 GOP seats. This is how they stole this state.

Their us house outlook so far has 201 Democrats safe or leaning. Thats already a likely pick up of 11 seats without flipping any tossups. Getting about half the toss ups will square away the house for us.

It was the Mt. Lebanon Democrat’s first time walking through the Capitol without an aide to guide him through the sprawling complex of government buildings connected by hallways and tunnels that all look alike.
