Repubs asking Rob Rosenstein for documents that are evidence in an investigation which he cant give setting him up for potential firing.
And acting AG in SDNY is recused from Cohen case and trump may replace him with someone more favorable to trump and then stopping the trail.
Will the rule of law be protected by Repubs? Turtle says he will not bring protecting Mueller to the floor nor will Ryan.
So because they are afraid of the trumps base which has now become the Republican Party repubs may abandon the rule of law to protect trump from criminal charges.
It is more important than ever that we vote in November to take over Congress.

(63,849 posts)give this weary synopsis of what may happen. Which I hope does not happen but we are trending on some disturbing posturing by these horrible men to protect this POS and not the Country or the rule of law.

(5,269 posts)I trust that Mueller and Rosenstein will know how to handle this attempt at entrapment. Repubs are hoping for Rosenstein to deny or delay their request or else hope that the documents are marked classified or Top Secret so they can attack Comey for illegally leaking of his own notes if they had been marked classified.
However, Rachel's reporting on Dana Boente's notes (about what Comey told him about the Trump meeting) showed that although Boente's notes had first been marked Top Secret, the notation had been lined out and handwritten notation said "unclassified" and the DOJ memo told Boente that his notes were not classified and could be released.

(22,976 posts)Time and again, theyve shown no respect for the law. They think theyre above it, that it only applies to someone not-Republican. Look at the way theyve gone after the FBI, claiming its some kind of liberal hotbed fronting for the deep state, or some such nonsense.
And yet theyre ALWAYS the first to scream about law and order if it involves POC, Democrats, progressives, etc.

(11,563 posts)The rule of law isn't as important as power and party, The country isn't as important as power and party. What IS as important as power and party to these bottom-dwelling beings? The lives of their families? I'm not even certain that that is 100% guaranteed.

(15,645 posts)in my view. As long as the Trump money pipeline keeps running (tax cuts, castrating regulations, etc.), the greedy will support and finance campaign/political strategies to ensure more of the same. They will do whatever it takes financially to whip up bigots against reason.

(18 posts)Last week when this was all first going down in the SDNY I read from multiple different places that the current acting US Attorney for SDNY who is recused, is limited to serving only until early May since he was put into that job on an acting capacity without having previously been confirmed by the Senate. Once he reaches that statutory time limit in early May the next acting US Attorney for SDNY wont be selected by the White House, but instead by vote of all the district judges in the Southern District of NY. I believe the implication was that the judges would select a career official who currently works at the SDNY US Attorneys Office (though Im not sure if this is required or not) and they would then serve as the acting US Attorney for SDNY until a permenant US Attorney can be confirmed.
Given the narrow majority the GOP has in the Senate, with McCain out for the forseable future and at least a couple of GOP Senators I think troubled by White House interference in the DOJ (Collins or Flake perhaps), I think it would be very unlikely Trump could get a permanent appointee confirmed unless its someome with an impeccable resume and is close to universally seen as independent with a devotion to the rule of law and Justice.. Now if the whole scenario is accurate that the district judges in the southern district of NY will select an acting US Attorney if a permenant replacement isnt in place by May (a tall order since theres not even a nominee and the acting one who was thought to be the likely nominee likely forever ruining that chance thanks to his recusal) then Id think the likely acting US Attorney there will be the person currently leading the Cohen inquiry or someone close to that person. At least for the foreseeable future. Idk though, maybe an attorney familiar with process can describe if this scenario was accurate (and I suppose trump could always appoint someone else in an acting capacity in the next couple wks in which case Im not sure if theyd be allowed to serve as long as the current acting US Attorney or what.. if they could only serve for a couple weeks, they may shut the inquiry down but then Id wager that the replacement selected by District Judges would quickly reopen it in May).
