Chrome 66: Get into the bin, auto-playing videos and Symantec certs!

Chrome the 66th is upon us and has added some features that Google previewed in months past.

One is the September 2017 decision to stop trusting Symantec’s digital certificates , ending a long dispute over the way the security vendor managed its partners’ PKI activities before June 2016. Chrome 66 will warn visitors to sites using the certs that their connection is not private.

Another addition is by-default blocking of auto-play content that includes sound. There are exceptions if users have indicated a willingness to encounter such content or already visited the site in the same browsing session, but the intent is to quieten pages that go straight for your ears. Which should see off plenty of pop-ups and the like.

but that last seems a great idea.

I hate taking 10 seconds to glance at my phone at work and having something blare at me by accident making it sound like I'm just watching video all day.

BUT - as for my home PC, I need the old Firefox for some addons that were not supported in the new FF. I need to check if it caught up to my fav addons yet.

:/

Oh, and I gave up on Chrome ages ago, when I found a great addon that quickly got auto uninstalled by google.

FF never auto-uninstalled my addons until FF57.

So I'm on FF56, happy as a lark, using my scrollyfox, PWexporter, various video downloaders, refcontrol, noscript, and others, almost all of which were gone when FF57 first popped up.
